i had my first cycle on my bike tonight with chopped bars, it feels amazing, really responsive and nice positioning, cant wait to ride it in traffic.

i have used chopped riser bars for about 10 years, cannot get on with drops ,sorry guys. but i love the position.
-
• #10

drops for distance
chops for city -
• #11
chop on! :)

• #12
i imagine london city on a sat is stupidly busy?
-
• #13
any day really.
-
• #14
but you can have the same position with drops?
and also get the benefit of a different position for going up hills.
I come from a bmx/mtb kinda backgrounf so I was certainly not accustomed to them. Dont know any other road bike users either so not influenced.
But, yeah drops! Come to love them, the drop position really helps get the most power out when standing. and its nice to switch between the two top hand positions for normal riding.
Like I . I and . if you know what I mean? flat hand & sideways hands on the tops.
If its a bike with drop brake levers, you get to use the hoods too.
Id only want to use risers for barspins.

i imagine london city on a sat is stupidly busy?
thats part of the fun isn;t it?
-
• #16
see, even though i have risers there isn't enough clearance for bar spins, im not really into all these tricks and the like, i enjoy to do the odd backward circle and weird trackstands however, thats about it, i just love narrow bars to whip through gaps in traffic, inches make differences when cars are on either side of you.
i do agree with drops give you benefits for more power when climbing up hills but im just used to narrow bars in traffic, i feel comfortable with them i guess.
are you comming for a roll on sat skeletonboy?
ALSO - whats peoples ages here?

thats part of the fun isn;t it?
yeah, it certainly is however its london...mayhem on the roads on a normal day so i can just picture what a sat will be like.

• #18
i'm not into tricks and things either, rode to cambridge/oxford/brighton same set-up no probs.
and i'm a very young 40 in 2 weeks -
• #19
im only 21.
-
• #20
oooooooooh, young man.
-
• #21
you ... 40??.... fucking hell...
-
• #22
fucking yes, and??
-
• #23
how wide is your chop bars?? My drops bars are 40...which is not as wide as my shoulders...the narrowest gap you can go through is dependent on your shoulders width and not your bars...
-
• #24
and ..I guess I will be buying you birthday drinks in 2 weeks...
-
• #25
nope, it's the width of your arse, most mirrors etc are arse height.
and yes you will davey :)
...to go for a cycle around London with some friendly members of this forum.
maybe either the 2nd or 3rd of august?
would anyone be up for a cycle about then a few drinks?
