Tents

  • I need to get a 1man + 1 woman tent for festivals, and light touring, needs to be light so i can carry it on panniers and water proof so its not useless in the UK, and not break the bank. any recommendations?

  • Decathlon do a range of cheap tents. Not sure how waterproof they are though.

  • most tents are 1 or 2 man, you might have some trouble.

tight sqeeze for 1 woman though with all the hair and make up products. :P

  • I can highly reccommend springing for a Terra Nova. Their made in Derbyshire and designed for use in the UK so is very waterproof. We once weathered a heavy storm with about an inch of water running through the car park we were camped in (long story) and barely a drop got in. It's ten years old, survived some rough treatment and just coming up for renewal.

  • about how much do they go for seldom k?

  • Go to Tesco and spend a tenner.

That's what I did and my two man tent has lasted me 5 years and been all over the world, awesome little thing. And waterproof.

True, they aren't the budget option but I think that investing in the essentials is worthwhile.

  • North Face Tadpole. Around £150-£200. 2.2kg, 3 season, 2 person.
I bought one recently and everyone who has one rates them, I also love mine a lot.

Agree with Seldom Killer: I do think it's worth spending on something like this. Compare the price to a hotel room against number of uses and you'll be laughing in no time.

  • Am looking at tents and need some more recommendations as I looking for some thing light weight and packs small and waterproof. For use both motorbike and cycle touring.

    So what would people recommend?

  • Check this thread:

Personally I would recommend a Terra Nova 'Laser Comp' for a one person tent, which can be had for around £220.

  • Thank you.

I have a few friends who have opted for this, none have stayed dry when it rained.

I recommend spending as much as you can afford. The better, more expensive tents will not let you down. However you will not want to take an expensive tent to a festival, for this i buy a fairly decent 2nd hand tent off ebay for cheap that has seen a fair bit of use (something like a vango) that I'm fairly confident will keep me dry and take that to the festivals. There is nothing worse than waking up wet and hungover, it makes you want to drink a very strong drink quickly which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  • This is not a festival tent, its more of a touring tent.

  • Ahh sorry I read the first post and didnt look at dates. In my opnion hilleberg make the best tents out there. Other really good brands are tera nova, north face, mountain equipment, mountain harwear, none of them will let you down. This looks good but will cost about £240. http://www.hilleberg.se/default-e.HTM

  • I bought a coleman a few years ago which has served me very well. I can't seem to find it online, but the closest thing is this:

What was awesome about it was that the single pole design meant that the tent was small but high, meaning it was actually possible to sit up in it, which made things a bit more pleasant if you ended up stuck in the rain and needed to play a board game/read.

  • hilleberg akto if you have 300 quid.

i really want one. but 300 quid??? they go for 250ish on ebay.
