  • Is there an FAQ section for newbies anywhere? Had a sqiz and coudn't find it

    Like:

    1. How do you ride a fixed-gear around the corner without the inside pedal twatting the ground putting you on your arse.

    2. What sort of ratio?

    3. Straps or clips?

    4. Where is the search facility for answering all of my own questions?

    5. What's wrong with mud guards?

  • That's actually five stupid questions, Jim... Hit search, top of the page... Ride safe...

  • I'm not adversed to using the search facility but it's not unsual to have a FAQ section in specialised forums is it? Was just wondering if one existed if not, would it not be useful to direct any newbs with their tedious obvious questions to all be answered. I for one would find it useful.

  • Standard forum answers aka answers from a cunt

    1. With Skill

    2. 50 x 14

    3. pedals are a good place to start

    4. above you

    5. HTFU!

  • I was just taking the piss mate... ;)

    1. How do you ride a fixed-gear around the corner without the inside pedal twatting the ground putting you on your arse.

The pedal strike myth ! On a properly set up bike it is almost impossible to pedal strike, I would have to lean my bike over so much (over 45deg) that I would loose the wheels from under me before the pedal (more likely the outside of your shoe on clipless pedals) hit the road.

On a conversion go for - a high BB shell and short crank arms (165mm or less) you should be fine unless you are hammering around a tight bend at 35 mph.

    1. What sort of ratio?

Try a couple see what you like, some people ride 65 GI others ride 90 GI, depends on a few factors, around 70 is said to be the most efficient (might need to check that).

    1. Straps or clips?

Straps or clip / powergrips / clipless - whatever you prefer, clipless will give you a little more clearance for you pedal strike concerns.

    1. Where is the search facility for answering all of my own questions?

    Go to http://www.sheldonbrown.com/ (OSBL)

    1. What's wrong with mud guards?

You can get AIDs off a badly maintained mudguard.

  • The most important question here is about mudguards

If you are going to ride fixed it is a faux pas to ride an ugly bike that may reflect badly on the fixed wheel community as a whole the fact that you even have to ask this question suggests to me that you might be happier riding an off road or even vicarage bicycle

  • i'm so impressed with the forum today. good point TSB.

  • 69" unless you wanna ahh beeer cider moo

  • You can get AIDs off a badly maintained mudguard.

    Myth.

All mudguards are HIV+ regardless of maintenance.

    Ride safe.

  • bollocks. there's nothing wrong with mudguards.

i ride my bike with SKS raceblades when it rains and honest, still looks a hell lot better than all those stupid hipster crap out there on FGG or velospace FFS!

    vicarage bicycle creased me....

  • Myth.

    Ride safe.

But HIV and AIDs are two distinct stages of the pathology, having HIV infected mudguards does not necessarily mean full blow AIDs mudguards.

  • I heard you could get rid of HIV off your mudguards if you gave them a quick shower.

  • I heard you could get rid of HIV off your mudguards if you gave it a quick shower.

A shower of baby gravy ?

  • a hosedown with wankspume?

  • I know praying before bumming someone stops AIDs, so I cannot see why something similar would not work for mudguards ?

  • I know praying before bumming someone stops AIDs

    Myth.

Just gets you on yer knees.

  • go to bed!

    Says me...
