  • Being new to the fixed/SS scene i kinda know nothing, today i went to a car boot sale and snapped this up for a mere £10.00, but was it a tenner well spent, sadly the frame is too big for me (it fits me with the saddle right down) the reason i bought it was simply for the parts, the brakes, head set, bottom bracket, all work perfectly, there isn't even any rounded off nuts on it.
Anyway tell me what you think.

Ok so i may have wasted a tenner but we all learn ....dont we.

  • I had one of those in 1986, but in maroon.

I actually reckon you'd be better off selling that as it is for more money, then buy something that does fit.

cos the bb, headset, brakes and cranks ain't very good quality, at all.

  • well done! very good deal

  • TBH, I'm sitting here thinking wether or not to keep it so i can get to work on it, as i said before it fits with the saddle at it's lowest point, the bike seems totaly untouched which i would think is rare and it is perfectly rideable.

  • put it on ebay / gumtree, buy a bike that fits u

  • you could use it to experiment on. for a tenner it's a bargain. personally, i wouldn't touch those old puch frames with a shitty stick, but that doesn't mean you didn't get a good deal.

the parts are pretty nasty. loving the electrical tape effect bartape. oh wait, that is electrical tape.

  • Speaking of one that fits, i have very short legs, almost kids size, i've seen this which is vey small, luckly i can go look at it but the guy emailed me and reckons it only has 21inch wheels (would this be correct) his listing says it's an 18inch but his email says it's a 19 inch frame either way i thought 26inch wheels would be the norm..Hmmmm.

  • RE the Puch: Depends what you want it for. I wouldn't bother customising it or converting it to single speed or fixed but as a 10 speed racer its great for £10 and should serve you well. If it fits you with the saddle down then theres no problem.

Its most likely heavy but for £10 you can't moan really. Bargain I say. Great condition too.

21 inch wheels seem an odd size but you can get kids racers with smaller wheels, a mate of mine had one. I wouldn't touch one personally as you'll only get crappy parts. You can get small road bikes with normal sized wheels but what may suit you better is a small light mountain bike set up (all rigid) as a road going machine (skinny tyres etc..).

  • I might be selling a small road bike soon. Its got pretty tight clearances and is built with campag and shimano parts. I'll post some pictures tomorrow and give you a rough idea of price and when (and if!) I'm going to be ebaying it.

Its not mine (as you'd imagine) but my girlfriends. I'm buillding her up something slightly bigger aat the moment and the money will go on parts.

  • £10 is a bargain, damn shame the frame did'nt fit you.

  • Yeah bit of a bummer really, i have listend to what people have said about moving it on but in all honesty i might keep it for the time being soley for getting to work, other bikes i have would be nicked in 5 mins, i'm quite pissed TBH as the bike is untoched and origional, the closer i look it just needs a good clean.......Oh well.

  • Take it out of the big big combo, that rear mech is being pulled.
Nice bike though, i like the mudguards. Put some proper bar tape on it if your going to keep it.

  • A little more help required i think, this is me on this bike with the saddle at it's lowest, i've measured the frame from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube, this measures 23 inches, now, i have my eye on a 21inch frame but i'm a little unsure wether it's gonna fit.
Going off this pic do you think a 21 inch is also gonna be to big.

  • how tall are you?

22" might be better. go back to the bootsale and buy another one for £8. get some new trainers while you're there. and paint over that lemon yellow, for the love of god. oh, and eat less eggs, you'll get eggbound. and if you keep them on top of the microwave you'll block the vents and die a slow and painfully irradiated death.

  • Discussed this with you in another thread i think, 5ft 6ish inner seam around 29 inch ish, i just new someone would comment on something esle other than the task in hand but as usual i fall for it everytime, poor me, i deserve a frame that fits after those comments.

  • 21 inch frame, maybe a 54-55cm, that should be fine. 22 at a push. but obviously, you'll have to try and see how it measures up.

if the saddle is too low it looks really nasty. and it's not good for you to have the bars higher.

  • The thing is the 21inch bike is on ebay so can't really test it, will 2 inches difference really make that much difference, BTW my missus says you are a twat and welcome to decorate her kitchen.

are some kind of egg addict?...and where did you get daffs at this time of year????

  • You mean sunflowers.

  • the garage/workbench area looks awesome. I'd ride the bike for the time being till you find something more ideal. Its not exactly gonna lose value.

  • Yayyy a positive comment about my home, you can come for tea if you like, will be EGG sarnies though.

  • BTW my missus says you are a twat and welcome to decorate her kitchen.

    that's the spirit.

i'm also in awe of/jealous of the work area.

and your place. i live in a studio flat in london's stabbystabby.

    • better clean those tyre marks off the fridge before she sees them though, otherwise she'll be pissed off with both of us.
  • Been on with that workshop for months now, revolving things around work doesn't help, took me about 3 weeks just to make the bench, i've put boards on the walls so as to hang tools up but cant be arsed to gather them all together, the place is a mess really,i'll post some pics when done.

Back to previous question though, will going from 23inch down to 21inch make that much difference.
