  • hi, first post and all, been lurking too long.

i have a carbolight peugeot, everything converted is ready to go, butt it has a funny tube. i can't fit it with the spare 27mm seatpost from my other bike.

can i fit a bigger post in there? i heard i could get an external "shim?

does anyone know where i can get one? i'm in e9.

    thanks.

  • hi, first post and all, been lurking too long.

Why not go all the way and tell us whether the post is too big, too small, and by how much ?

  • the post is too big. i thougt that was obvious. can i fit it in anyway? it's a simppel question.

someone said i could shim it.

  • i shim my seatpost with a beer can, works a treat. and it's nice to associate your frame with beer

  • the post is too big. i thougt that was obvious. can i fit it in anyway? it's a simppel question.

someone said i could shim it.

"can i fit a bigger post in there?"

i understand that as that the seat post is too big? if it's too big, you have to get a thinner one. if the post is smaller, shim with a can

to measure, get a vernier gauge

  • yes, i measured the seatpost witha ruler its roughly 2.7 cm.

what about an external shim? where can i get one of those? i cant go smaller its wrong sized.

  • whats a vernier guage?

  • roughly isn't good enough for seatposts, has to fit down to 0.2mm

you can easily make an external shim from a cut up beer can

  • whats a vernier guage?

    googeligoogle it dude

  • so does the shim wrap rounf post and tube and hold it in place?

  • sorry mate you will need to buy one.. i think they are 24 mm and they are rarer than gold...

  • so does the shim wrap rounf post and tube and hold it in place?

just the post, to make it a tad bigger, and the whole thing goes into the seat tube

  • no to the external shim. how on earth will adding material to a post make it fit inside a hole that is already too small?

shell out the 10-15 quid a new post will cost you. sorted.

  • but the tube is to small for the post. so an external shim is perfect.

does anyone have one? liek i said im in E9. can pick up.

is the shim 24mm what i am doing?

  • this has to be a pisstake.

  • the post you need is 24mm!!

    10 pounds from here
    http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/l330-basic-diam-23-4-25-27-2-35412401/
    or
    20 pounds from BLB!!

  • a shim is what goes between the seat tube and seatpost. if the post is too big for the tube, a shim is not what you need. you'll need a new post

  • ok thankx.

    ill get one from BLB.

  • I'm using the 23.4mm post from decathalon with a shim and it's worked out well - very long so it's good if you need to raise your saddle up. Not sure what BLB have in stock but might be similar to the short stock posts that come with such Peugeots...

    bring the mob please

  • hahaha....see broker... this is what you get for helping out!!!

  • I've learned my lesson.

  • Reindeer. Haha. Just in case it's not been made clear, a shim (not a cross between a she and a him - that's another thread) fills in the gap if your post is too small for your seat tube. You've got to get another post. External shims are for late night dark corner pervertry, and have no place here.

  • just saying. im glad jimalex understnads what i meant. im not sure pervetry is a word.

i'll go BLB tomorrow get a psot.
