The paint and transfers are all wrong on this 'NOS' Pinarello frame

and a few other things don't seem to add up

Does anyone know if this is a genuine Pinarello

    and if so which model?

  • It looks like it's been resprayed and the font on the Pinarello transfers look wrong. However, the GP logo at the top of the seat stays and on the crown of the fork is used by Pinarello.

  • What about the Campagnolo rear ends I thought Pinarello used there own ends. Also 130 rear spacing suggests to me the early 1990's yet the cable braze on look older. It isn't a Montello so what model is it?

  • Not sure on the rear ends but not many manufacturers use their own, i.e. you have to order quite a large number to get your name cast on them. I'm suspicious, SL tubing would suggest 1980s, as would the external routing for the rear brake cable so you'd expect 126 mm rear spacing.

I don't think it's a Montello as that used SLX tubing to the best of my knowledge. I think the Treviso was made from SL tubing.

  • It could be a mid eighties Treviso but not with that rear spacing and not with the pump pip which came later, its a bit odd innit

  • No head badge either. He's got two other frames for sale and they lack head badges as well. I reckon he's resprayed them all, they are very pristine but lacking certain decals you'd expect, i.e. the Giovanni Pinarello signature on the top tube.

  • The restoration is poor, wrong paint, wrong decals, no head-badge no lining etc. However if Pinarello used Campy ends and had external cable braze ons for later non top of the line SL models then this could be an early 1990's Pinarello Treviso. What we need is the catalogue!

    TREVISO 1989

  • wheres the front mech hanger?

  • yeah where is it? no wonder no one has bid on this

  • I don't think I've ever seen a lugged steel Pinarello without a braze on front mech hanger.

  • Try http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/Italy.html you can search their mailing list here http://search.bikelist.org/ .

I'd like to thank Jos for that info, just passing it on

  • Well it does say "Frame raw made to 70'/80' . Painting to 2008" so it sounds like he's had them painted.
