I am already in training. I spent Saturday doing laps of Highgate West Hill and Swains Lane! Are we still planning a trip to Calshot too. That looks great?
I definitely think we should have some sort of team pursuit. They look like a right laugh

It's all falling into place; this morning an old roadie on an FW Evans frame asked "Have you ever thought about track cycling son?". Obv astounded by the wattage I was laying down up Southampton Row. ;)

Here is your source: To my understanding track racing and betting goes well together. Might even help to spice things up.

indeed.
i doubt he'll make much money, though, unless he pays MikeC to take a dive.
or, unless he starts a 'Formula2' category for the duffers amongst us. that would really open up the betting.

why not do A Cats and B Cats?

@ nimbus, if you so keen on winning there is always the possibility of a handicap race (riders start at different positions along the track). it requires an experienced coach to judge the group of riders and set up the handicaps but maybe you can check with the HH guys if it is possible towards the end of the day

Anything goes! I'm just organising the track and the prizes, you guys can figure out which races you want on the programme... :)

Any chance of being able to do the induction the same day as (I believe) was the case at the last event?

Yup, no probs... Tho' you'll stand a much better chance if you can get down there before then and get some miles under your belt at the training sessions...

it's not a question of being 'keen on winning' -that's not what it's about at all. it's about keeping it competitive for everyone.
I don't think i'm being unreasonable or impractical - i certainly am not looking for things to be arranged 'so i can win'!
it's pretty clear that the LGFSS crew divide into an easy A and B category - it happened on the oxford ride, and it happened at the track.
it's not to say we wouldn't have some races all together - but stuff like the Keirin races could be easily sorted out so that people of similar abilty raced together, and it would be loads of fun.
Flippant answers like 'train more' are unhelpful. i expect i could train from now until sept 21st, and still not improve enough to be in group A, and i'm sure plenty of others feel the same way
anyway, if no one else agrees with me, i'll shut up about it. It just seems like common sense to me, and many other sporting occasions are organised by such a system.

the handicap race was a serious suggestion. if set up perfectly nobody wins as all cross the line together.
-
• #17
yes, fair enough. perhaps the B group could simply start a lap ahead. that seemed to be roughly the difference!

Almost forgot the completely pointless list, Jeez! I'm goin' mental!

how about a 'slow' race - i.e. go from the last corner to the finish line as slow as possible - foot down and your out. Last one over the line wins. :-)
We've got the date confirmed, gonna start firing off emails today and try and get even more sponsors for LFGSSTD v2.0... This of course equals more prizes, more fun, more disappointment/heartache (@ nimbhus)... You get my drift... Hoping to hook up some seriously nice stuff tho', so get training!!! HTFU people! So what races we gonna do? Hmmm?
