  • Another question about my Falcon? I have a early to mid 80's Falcon frame made with Reynolds 531 tubing and is in great shape. I am doing a fixie conversion with it. I have had it resprayed a really nice dark metallic blue. I wrote to the Falcon Co. and they sent me some really nice Falcon Decals free of charge.

My Dilemma is weather to put the Decals on the bike to show what kind of bike it is or not? I don't know what the reputation for Falcon Bicycles is and might not want to advertise if everyone thinks Falcons are total shit? The bike isn't shit at all, it's actually a really nice ride?

I'm definitely interested is what y'all think??

  • who cares what other people think?

  • i think that if falcon have seen you some nice stickers you should get them on there, it'll look great and it's nice story. i dunno much about falcon but it's not like Apollo or Windolene or Wimpy or anything.

  • wimpy is special place. i used to go there as a youth, there was one in barnstaple high street. my parents took me there, i'd sit salivating before ordering a 'bender in a bun'.

    +1

  • Wimpy was well expensive as I remember! lol @ 'bender in a bun'

  • i want a track frame with wimpy decals and a beefeater headbadge.

ain't no party like a wimpy party.

  • Yeah, I really shouldn't give a crap what anyone thinks. But lets face it we all do a bit? Anyway....."Do I sound fat in this post"?

  • Lose the attitude and ride. Sorry just been dying to use that. That is gold. :)

    +1

  • ahh wimpey. i can visulise the laminated menu. knickerbockerglory or banana boat were my favorites. sitting down to eat a burger with knife and fork, that's classy.

  • decals on, f##k what other people think about your bike

  • They go on!! Right on, Right on!

  • I'm sure I read a book that basically blamed Wimpy for the collapse of the UK's biggest chain of Tea rooms. Lyons Tea houses or summit tried to expand into this modern american "fast food" market converted there tea rooms into Wimpy's to taken on the clown and the rest is history...

i think that contained in the above quote is everything you need to know about PJ's personality and internal anger.
enough material for an entire conference, as they say.

  • Wimpy ruled. Spicy Bean Burger was my regular when I was earning 7K before tax, they had a Wimpy in Soho til quite recently! And one on Islington green, I used to go there for coffee and sit outside instead of all those wank bars they got there. Who said it was expensive??? ^^^. It was WELL CHEAP.

As for the lyons corner house thing, there was a really innersting piece on the obituaries programme on radio 4 last night, about this guy (David something) who work for Lyons, post WW2, who invented the 'business computer' aka 'automatic office', to sort out payrolls and orders and stuff, back when Lyons was a seriously large concern. They actually tried to start selling them to other people too. And he only had one leg and used to walk (hop?) up Snowden on a regular basis.

Yeah what was the question? Oh falcon decals. Yep bang em on I say. They were a large manufacturer back in the seventies, but with a fairly decent rep thanks to Ernie Clements, their founder. I think the ones that said 'Falcon by Ernie Clements' were the premium stuff for a while... Depends on the bike/year etc. Of course they did make some average/shite too. Originally were Coventry Eagle I believe, and later some of the old Falcon people went on to make British Eagle (made in wales I think?) when Falcon got big and shit. And Falcon licensed Eddie Mercx marque to sell in the UK for a while, but andyp was saying the other day they are probably made of plumbing pipes.

The digested read: Falcon = not totally crap. Lyons were bigger than a few burger bars, and their fall wasn't the sole result of that business model. Spicy Beanburgers were FUCKING LUSH, and I want one now.

  • and... you're back in the room.

  • wimpy sucked.

  • you suck.

wimpy had plates and metal cutlery.

  • and... you're back in the room.

    Haha you fucking comedian

  • that's me. i'm off to the library to write some more about apocalyptic modernism in the fiction of patrick white.

  • wimpy sucked.

no no no you a are so so so wrong. Granted it aint Michelin-starred stuff. But I guess that's what you Surray toffs expect huh.

  • thatcher's children.

  • you suck.

wimpy had plates and metal cutlery.

you think you can tell me about wimpy? Oh, no. throughout my youth, Wimpy was the only hamburger 'joint' allowed in my small posh home town of marlow - this was because they passed a local by-law to exclude any restaurant which did not serve food on plates with knif and fork. this kept out McD's and Burger king, but fuckign wimpy slipped under the radar, so that's what we had to put up with.

    gay.

  • Why are you bring mark and carol into this? Do they ride Falcons? Or eat at Wimpy? I think not.
