I got
50/19 road
50/15 trackcatches the wind though, like a big sail, that chainring.
the problem is, finding something that gives you a good ratio for track/road without having to put a different chain on because of the change in size of sprocket.
but you could just as easily go 42/16 road and 42/13 track..
and for two road ratios together there's less to worry about
I think it's good to build up a selection of rings and sprockets, to really confuse yourself.

52-19 + 27 rear wheel.
Feels good, and looks I think.
Can pedal brake okish even on flats.

brand new zicral 28t and 26t chainrings. for free. for you if you want. 74 bcd.
brand new. ideal for fully laden tour up himalayas.
-
• #16
let me see if I can get some 74 bcd single cranks,,,,cheap
-
• #17
ok, i'll hold them for you. for as long as you like. i don't sense much demand right now. they're not really cluttering up my house either. they're the size of a ten pence piece.
nb: 74 bcd cranks: Spa cycles.
were you joking?
-
• #18
Need a big:small thing. 47+ up front. Don't want it looking like this:
-
• #19
what gauge of spoke is the most visually appealing?
-
• #20
it was half joking half not btw... genuine problem... not really genuinely needing a response, but now i have it i am pleased.
and yes. spa cycles is my local bike shop
-
• #21
what valve stem is everyone running?? threaded all the way, half way or unthreaded??
just outa interest like?
-
• #22
you're so sarcastic, you bastard
-
• #23
no, sadistic!
-
• #24
An unthreaded valve stem is a way more direct and zen riding experience... I feel completely at one with my tube, once you've ridden unthreaded you'll never go back... Trust me...
-
• #25
what do you lot do for a job? you seem to do as little work as i do
what ya reckon?
run a 42 ring a the moment, going to go up a few notches. was thinking 44 but now after looking, tempted by 46 or 48,
i know the advantage of wear and i think 46 might give me a good rideable gear with my track cogs available but what do you reckon looks best? on a large frame...
would rather run laster longer bigger gears on the back too
hmm. yes. i am that bored.
