ridiculously expensive for some welded bits of metal....maybe ask Jos to pick up a front rack from edamland.....cheap and proven....loads of people use them over there.

Expensive, you reckon? I'm considering taking my goldtec/open pro wheelset off my Roadrat, and converting it back to singlespeed with a front rack for heavy loads. Then a steamroller or something for 'proper' riding.
Hmm, thinking about it, my Dad was a toolmaker and is rather good at metalworking. I'll show him the cetma ones and see what he reckons.

£40-£90 plus shipping for a rack? that's expensive in my book, it's just some bits of mild steel welded in a grid design...

try a blackburn mountain rack. I got one off ebay for about 15 including postage. It's pretty sturdy. Maybe not up to cetma standards but pretty good.

^ That's pretty good value. I could just modify it to make it wider and I'd be sorted.
Edit: or even more ghetto and just use a milk crate + bungee cords.

nice rack! but does it require lowrider bosses? I was looking at this yesterday.
SJS writes 'Fits onto lower and mid lowrider bosses, as well as at the fork crown, but is NOT a lowrider. Suitable for all types of terrain. Sturdy triangulated design for ultimate strength & stability. Centre section provides protection from mud and water. Weight: 540g'
You could use some clamps on the forks + check out this thread on bikeradar that I saw. -

having spent the day (in fact most of the week)trying to buy a front rack...
lowrider bosses are not the same as custom lowrider bosses (a la Blackburn CL1). Custom ones go through the fork, regular lowrider bosses screw in one side only.
I can't see the point of a non-lowrider front rack, the weight would be so high up. Better to get a trailer if you need to carry stuff on the top of a front rack IMO
There's surely only one rack to buy: tubus (?)

I am currently having some front racks a bit like Cetma made. They should be a bit cheaper than Cetma, but just as good. If people are interested then I will look at having more made. Drop me a PM and as soon as they are sorted I will post pics.

Damn, rather than the shame of probably fucking it up again, if you go to the Johnny Loco home page then go to cruisers section it's under cruiser accessories.
On the Steco site it's all in dutch, but under products 'Bagagedragers' I think the ' JWD Transportvoordrager' is the best

These Low Rider Pannier Racks.
http://www.parkersofbolton.co.uk/p-720-standard-low-rider-alloy-front-pannier-rack-rrp-22.aspxhow do these mount? and are the bars at the top lower than the wheel?

Luke, see the mount on the side of the fork?
A little while back I remember seeing a guy in the states who made custom front racks, flat bed style, similar to the one Paul Comp sells.
I can't find the link to their web site anywhere. I'm pretty sure it was on Fixed Gear Gallery or Urban Velo but can't find it now. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
