I am thinking of going to critical mass this evening (bought a bike earlier this week) but think lights are probably needed for the journey home. -

I use a 1 x AA cree flashlight clipped on my bars with a simple rubber holster, fairly discreet, very bright & runs for ages, quick to pull off, cheap, more solid than a brick etc..
the 3v versions are brighter, smaller and dont cost much more either.Going for a modern mini-flashlight on the front is definetely the best choice, headlamps are good but look weird. I run a regular red clip on led blinker on the back, usually clipped to my bag. Can beat those either.

-1 for knog frogs.
they break really easily. -

i wouldn't use a knog or similar as my sole souce of being seen on the road. they are just not bright enough.
one of these
or one of those fenix (sp?) torches

just putting in a good word for the Hope Vision 1 LED which did me proud on the Dunwich Dynamo just past. having ridden with regular streetlights last year and having (accidentally) a few other night rides since i thought i should invest in something proper. at around 70 sheets from wiggle is at the cheaper end of 'proper' lights but didn't have to go past the medium setting on these and still felt like i could go a good bit faster and see plenty of the road ahead. that's it. that's the word i am putting in. oh, and QR on to handlebar.
looking forward to more night rides now

Can anyone recommend some cheap bike lights that don't need a bracket (so wil just clip on/off as and when required)?
