  • I'm surprised no one else has posted this, from today's Guardian;

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/jun/27/cycling.gordonbrown

I'm not sure where they will hold the first event in October 2009 but I believe the Olympic velodrome will be open by October 2010.

    Social event anyone? ;)

  • Sweet! That should be a laugh.

  • hire the track for some skidding contests !! i'm sure it would be thousands to hire that place when it's finished all over to mine after for a bbq too i'm about 5 mins down the road

There are transportable tracks that are used for a lot of sixes as normal velodromes don't generally have the spectator seating for the numbers expected at a Six.

  • Looking forward to this. I have fond memories of being taken to several Skol 6 Events at Wembley by my dad, even getting to see my hero Eddy Merckx race at one of them.

  • we were being promised one THIS year....it was news a few months back, was to be promoted by a Dutch guy, Mr Boele, responsible for the Rotterdam Six, was going to be at Greenwich next to the Dome....hope this incarnation comes off though......

  • Wasn't it going to be in the O2 arena? I remember there was a thread on here about it a few months back. Let's hope one of them comes off at least.

  • Was supposed to be in a tent next to the dome, hopefully this plan has better legs!

  • This was Al's original post: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread2935.html

  • Jeez BigSteeve, you must be older than I am

  • on the british cycling website it shows a picture of that young lad, peter mitchell (he won that rollapuluza event at waterloo) outside 10 downing st. at some kinda launch with gordon brown.

  • sigh....i thought one had been announced for this year.

am thinking of going to the Ghent 6 day. has anyone else done this? tips? thinking of getting eurostar etc.

  • Yes it is fucking brilliant. Went last year and it was easily one of the best holidays I have had.
Eurostar from St Pancras to Brussels in a couple of hours and then a local train half an hour to Ghent.

It's a tiny city full of the most amazing architecture and the beer is just beyond words :)

  • ... and the bike racing is fun.

  • What Mike said. I've been a few times and it's great every time. Been over with Rollas in a van and also on Eurostar. Gent isn't too hard to navigate and Belgian beer is awesome. Oh yeah there's some track racing that happens too I think.. ;)

  • annual Berlin vs Ghent argument anyone?

  • Oh yes of course the racing was great. I only went to one afternoon, the final day as I had to compromises with the missus, but it was very exciting. Even she liked it :)

  • I've been to Ghent probably about 10 times. Its great, and is probably the easiest of the continental 6 Days to get to - a quick channel hop and about an hour an a half's drive.

That said, have been talking of going somewhere different just out of interest this year. Berlin has been mentioned.

  • I'm sticking with watching Calshot track league with a bag of haribo. Better racing and better choice of food & drink.

  • Grumpies are looking at doing a Ghent/Berlin doubleheader this year

    poor livers…

  • have been to berlin a number of times and since Eurostar > Plane think it is going to be Ghent.

there was also an offer in the Guardian last weekend for Eurostar + 3 nights in a decent(ish) hotel for £239 which is a touch cheaper than you can do it independently I think.

is it every tricky getting tickets to the racing?

  • I wish people would stop talking about this, reminds me of winter!

  • During

    after

  • is it every tricky getting tickets to the racing?
It's mildly difficult, but easiest to phone the box office. Get seats, you don't want to spend the evening in the track centre.

Gent is a brilliant place for a long weekend.
