Have a search for OTP, (off the Peg) there is a whole wealth of information in there that will help you decide.
oh and search for the trixie chix as well, we meet most weeks and are always happy for noob ladies to have a go on our bikes..

I would recommend using the search function & the phrase 'off the peg' and all will be revealed.
or the wise words of Clefty!

I think Clefty's got a ctrl+shift key built in to her keypad now. Or even a macro that recognises the word "n00b". I love the way she most often gets that sentence in right at the top.

BMMF, you've got me mate.
Of course I'm dynamite to all women, considering that being 19 stone and 5'9" is what all women are looking for.
Truth is, I go for big women. Less chance of death by squashing. Next.

Truth is, BMMF.
That's just your opinion, but I'm flattered anyway.

Hello all,
I currently ride a battered old Claud Butler Urban 200 - had it for 5 years and it has been OK, no complaints.
I rarely use the gears on my Urban 200 so I now want to experience a single speed bike and in the process hopefully get a little bit fitter. I am complete entry level for single-speed, but would like the bike to give me the option of fixing so it would need a flip-flop hub.
I have about £500 to spend through our work Cyclescheme, so second-hand bikes are not an option, the scheme only allows for new bikes.
Which bike would you recommend for me to try for a test ride? I would like something that is fast, safe, easy to handle and robust as it will be used for commuting daily. I am a female, 5 foot 8 inches, medium build - if that make a difference.
Cheers! :)
Surly Steamroller, 53cm, has a flip flop. Will need to add a freewheel cog (£10) - the bike is listed as £600 at Evans Cycles, but can be had for £540 from www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk (they deliver for free) OR Evans will price match the £540 - that's about £500 :0)

As do most of the OTP bikes (flip-flop that is) if you don't want to spend that sort of money (although its a great bike)
Shannon are you on commission for Surly? ;-) -

Shannon are you on commission for Surly? ;-)No, I'm just buying that bike today, so I'm juiced about it
There are indeed many good buys around the £400 mark

i think the bianchi pista looks pretty...but is it a good build for the money? i also like the look of the genesis flyer...i have to test ride i know, but my local bike shop doesn;t have either of the bikes in stock and have told e that i have to pay a £30 'deposit' per bike they get in specially, this then gets deducted off the purchase (E*ans).
maybe I should try On yer Bike...or Cyclesurgery.
