• I was recently given a Gazelle frame for the price of the carriage from Holland (hence the £20). It's not really of use to me now (I've pilfered the head-tube badge of it but replaced the badge with another that wasn't quite as shiny so it's still all original) so it's yours for the cost of that carriage.

*BUT and here's the rub, if possible I'd like it to go to someone who really needs a frame to build a SS or fixed conversion to use in London, probably as their daily hack or similar. Not someone who already has a perfectly good bike or two and fancies something else for the hell of it. Plus whoever gets it I'd like them (if they're happy to do so) to document the build here on the forum as inspiration for others putting a bike together to a tight budget.

It's a Gazelle, lugged 531 tubing with very light damage on the seat-tube (a tiny dink, see pics below) probably from the late 70s early/mid 80s. It's 58cm in terms of size, decals are all original and it should clean up pretty well. The crank, BB etc. all come with it. Anyone interested?

  • Wow - thats very generous!
    I don't kwalify as I have 4 bikes already... :-(

  • hey,

Sounds great i'd love to give building an SS from scratch, sounds like we need to talk, assuming its not already gone, definately would be up for this, and at £20 a bargain, let me know..

  • I'm very interested - what size is it?

    edit

    Duh! already posted, idiot!

  • whoever ends up getting this, gimme a shout.
i'm gonna have a clearout over the next few days and i'll have a load of cheap/free parts going.

  • cheers Mister K

would be interested in any parts you have, definately gonna be building one so parts will be of use..

  • yes v. generous van uden. chapeau!

  • I'd love this! I have a Bowery already but it's going to a friend as it's too small. I've been looking for a frame to restore/build up and ride everyday from Old Street to Hyde Park way. Documenting's no probs as I've been snooping on here since becoming a bit of a bike addict again a few months back and would love to get involved.

Pretty please? I'll give you more than the £20 if you like?

  • Yeah it is generous, lovely frames gazelle, was thinking about having a go at building my own wheels for this if i were to get the frame, anyone here had a go at building there own wheels before? Only thing i've never tried with a bike build.. Could be a good opportunity to try my hand at it..

  • I figure im much too late but if its still available i would love this frame. I recently picked up my first single speed from ebay thinking i had found a glorious bargain. I took it in for a service as it was a bit all over the show and to my dismay found that even after five days sitting in an anti rust bath, the seatpost wouldn't budge a millimeter. Whilst not rendering the frame 'useless,' it certainly pisses me off hence my current search for a new frame. Hope this is a good enough reason to add me to the long list of potential candidates!

  • Good shout mister k.

Thanks for the replies and the PMs from those stating their suitability, keep them coming if you're terminally broke but really need a bike. I'll get back to whoever seems most fitting tomorrow morning. Sorry to drag it out but I'd like people to have the opportunity to see this this evening (such as students and the like, hell I was a broke art student back in 1842) and not just during work hours. Plus I want to be sure it's going to someone who will build it up and use it well. Ta.

  • nice one Van Uden, i applaud the spirit in which you are doing this, but obviously i'll be livid if it does to someone else!

  • It really does sound like paulknight10 really wants your frame! Get in there my son!

  • certainly do, really need a project to get my teeth into..But i'm sure we all want this frame..

  • Well - I'm more than happy to back off and let you go for it, you sound like you want it more and you were there first anyway.

Of course it is VanUden's say at the end of the day! :D

  • Can we fight for it? Longest track stand wins?

  • Maybe some kind of fixed jousting?

  • ^s'all gonna end in tears.

  • i lost a beautiful gazelle last summer and although i do have 7 bikes currently i feel like i should be the one !!

  • oh wait a minute it isn't a champion mondial i'll withdraw my bid !!

  • not sure i fancy the jousting! seems just damn unnatural being that high up on a bike!

  • i have no bikes. never built anything. i deserve it. this would be my first bike.

  • i was gonna make a clearout thread in a bit. i'll put the relevant bits on here first for whoever ends up with the frame (if they want them).

Nice old 1" quill stem. Strange size, it's smaller than normal but i haven't measured it. would polish up nicely. drop bars to fit said stem, chrome. brake levers to fit said bars. - £5 for all

Old 27" wheelset with tyres/tubes, not too pretty, but they roll. 5 speed cassette, could be used for SS or maybe fixed with a suicide hub - £Beer

Old flat pedals, you could fit clips/straps to them, need a bit of love - £Free/Beer if you're feeling generous.

  • could you send/post a picture of the stem? cheers
