  • Just felt I wanted to express my pleasure with my recent shopping experience at cyclebasket.

Ordered some bits yesterday afternoon, dude from there rang about 10 minutes later to check my order was right (order a 1/8th chain and a 3/32 sproket for different builds), lovely chap.

About 2 hours ago, less than 24 hours later, nice package waiting for me in the work postroom!!!

    That is all.

  • +1. Got my order spot on and very fast. Only niggle is the minimum £6 p+p.

  • also small PITA as they are closed on wed, so don't send orders till thu

  • also they;'re selling track frames for 225 new.

  • Anyone got any experience of cyclebasket's wheelbuilds?

Debating whether to go with them or parker int.

  • I don't know about Cyclebasket, but I have had a pair of wheels from Parkers in the past. Both went out of true in about 3 months.

    Not very helpful, sorry.

  • But you could just true them up right? Aren't new wheels prone to going out of true, i dunno.

I heard they were good http://www.lfgss.com/thread21049.html.

  • But you could just true them up right? Aren't new wheels prone to going out of true, i dunno.

Nah, not if they're built properly. I had some built by Arup who's on here sometimes. Wheels got hammered and until I got caught out by a pothole they were perfect.

  • ^ Arup built me some wheels last summer, still running true today.

  • The wheels from my cider-fuelled tutorial session with Hillbilly are still going strong barring one broken spoke on the rear wheel caused by hitting the deeply recessed manhole cover opposite Redstone on Gt Eastern St (now fixed) at a full sprint trying to make the lights. New spoke in and tightened and it was about a minute's work to get the thing back in true. The front has never been touched.

  • Hillbilly built my wheels, they are strong like bull.

  • Imbued with manly spirit of cider and Hillbillyness.

  • I recently ordered 12 Nutrak tubes from Cyclebasket. Six of them got a puncture in the exact same spot within about 10 days. I emailed them and, given the extensive inconvenience this caused, requested they send me a new set of tubes from a different company for free.

They said they would refund me for the tubes, but they would not give me any other deal because of my attitude (simply the fact that I requested free replacements from a different make in my email). When I called to discuss this, he called me an "ignorant pig" and hung up on me. I called back, he called me an "ignorant little scrout" and then hung up on me again. I did manage to get a "fuck you, you cunt" in, but only after he began calling me names for having the gall to request a new set of tubes for free.

So, imo, Cyclebasket are not great. They should be boycotted.

  • Eh? You got 6 punctures in the same place and you think it's the fault of the tube? Stroll on.

  • Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhahhhhh

  • Eh? You got 6 punctures in the same place and you think it's the fault of the tube? Stroll on.

Right on the seem where the rubber from the valve is welded to the rubber from the rest of the tube. Of course I have checked my rim many times over. It is clearly a manufacturing defect.

  • Four of the tubes popped while the bike was not in use. Two of those times it was not at home.

  • Oh, no, I have many friends on the internet.

  • To be fair, welding valves to tubes sounds like a serious manufacturing problem.

  • Bonded.

Keep 'em coming guys. All very helpful.

Seen this happen with a batch of tubes before, conti ones I think.

I should also have mentioned that it happened on three different wheels. Same exact puncture spot. Are you suggesting that I am an ignorant little scrout too?

  • specialized are bad for it as well, I've had countless ones burst along the seam as soon as it goes over 100psi.

Nope. I'm stating that I waded in without being fully aware of the facts.

For which I apologise unreservedly, sorry.

  • No worries. I am, in fact, easily mistaken for an ignorant pig.
