Depends what you want, As tommy says, join your local freecycle - Lambeth is the largest one in London, but the Lewisham one also churns through a heap of stuff every day.
If you've got a spare bit of cash, there's always some stuff on the Wanted section of the East Dulwich Forum http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/list.php?9 I got an almost new 6 bed tent for £30 at the weekend
If you want to be more ethical / charitable try and find a local Emmaus
http://www.emmaus.org.uk/regions/view/london, or try the heaps of charity shops on the Walworth Road, and there's bound to be more links on the London Community Recycling Network (hello Matthew!) http://www.lcrn.org.uk/There's boot fairs on Nine Elms in Vauxhall on a sunday too.

There's some random second hand furniture market sometimes open just off Roman Road, don't think it has set opening times though. Apart from that most of mine has come from the street/peoples old flats.

Hi Guys one quick question,
where in London can I get hold of 2nd hand furniture. Apart from the usual carboot & gumtree approach, is there any warehouse with a selection thats worth going to ?
Back home, we have several council projects, where longtime unemployed are working to fix up furniture, which they have pick up from clearings beforehand.
Next to supporting a social projects and being green its a brilliant and cheap way to come by some stuff that has some more personality than ikea/habiltat/ and the lot
Does this exist here ?
What is the single best spot for 2nd hand furniture in London ?
The best carboot sale I found is Chiswick. Any further recommendations ?
