  • Obviously since being twatted off I'm more jumpy and aware of crashes, plus its summer so the numpties are out, plus the forum gets ever bigger plus plus plus, but...

Am I the only one who feels there are being an awful lot of bike crashes/smashes/breaks/accidents over the last month or two?

    Ride safe Y'all.

  • I feel it too.

  • There do seem to be quite a few, but you'll be more aware of them having had one. It's a psychological thing - like if you buy / are about to buy a particular brand of bike / trainer / whatever, you will suddenly see loads of them around.

Still - it's lovely & sunny today. Yay!

  • You are paranoid. Everyone's being saying that about you recently.

  • I don't really see how people have crashes not if you watch the traffic and go with the flow

  • It's probably a fact that there were far fewer crashes immediately after the 1966 World Cup, and so I think a lot of cabbies and van drivers are frustrated at England not being in Euro 2008 and are taking it out on cyclists, plus the nice weather gets them a bit horny but they're stuck behind the wheel and, once again, take it out on the cyclists who are a lot more promiscuous. That's clearly what's going on. ps anyone know the going price of Sugino 75 crank dust caps. I think my 30 dollar bid may be excessive.

  • Probably a fact?
    Promiscuous cyclists?
What are you trying to tell us?

  • we should do a poll and see what the numbers are for crashes where people had a brake and crashes where people rode brakeless. might make for interesting reading !

  • @ t s bhudda, have you never crashed?

  • So horny white van drivers are taking it out on cyclists?

I'd say so mate, they're cheap as chips

  • Well apart from mowing down the odd moronic pedestrian I have never crashed sober

  • It's the silver vans you need to watch for... a few years back they all got paranoid and switched from white to this colour, on account of all the bad press white van guys were getting about them being rapists, child abductors etc. Now the backlash has begun. The respect they craved never arrived. The hot weather merely compounds their condition. As to race, I've no idea whether white van drivers are the more aggresive. Statistically speaking we're all more likely to fall off on a tuesday, that much I know, it's more or less a truism. Can you buy dust caps for a Sugino 75 crank in London by the way?

  • thanks for the dust cap site

  • Crash no. 1 - 2004 - Woman opened her car door without looking. BMX hit door and stopped. I didn't stop and carried on over the door.

Crash no. 2 - 2007 Slipped a pedal on the BMX, while going too fast trying to make the lights. Came off and hit a Scooter head on, coming from the other direction!

Crash no. 3 - 2008 Tram track in the wet on the Single Speed, skidded like a muther!

Summary: 66% 'my fault' rating, I can't ride for shit!

  • Well apart from mowing down the odd moronic pedestrian I have never crashed sober

    And pissed?

  • You know what riles me off the most about pedestrian road crossers is the (and sorry to sound like an angry sexist, but it's frequently the ladyfolk) women who daintily prance into the road in front of you on tip-toes...like a road fairy, because as we all know running on tip toes means you're not really there. That I hate.

  • I don't really see how people have crashes not if you watch the traffic and go with the flow

That's total nonsense, no matter how much on-point you are something can always come out of leftfield, opening car door etc. I reckon most folks on here are experience and ride well and we're still getting swatted. All you can do is keep your wits about you. And enjoy yourself ;)

  • im paranoid all the time. i hate you all

I agree. It's very hard not to view everything on the road as having a single COLLECTIVE WILL. The late James Reginald, head of psychotransit science at Harvard coined the phrase 'Motorhead' to describe this very same paranoid state of mind, where it appears to the suffer that the entire vehicular content of the road at any one time is thinking 'as one' and is actively colluding against the individual. A famous heavy rock outfit, all keen cyclists may I add, were heavily influenced by Reginald's teachings. The name of the band escapes me.

  • leave me alone

    judas priest?

  • I've had a quite few crashes, both on motorbikes and pushbikes. I think I could have avoided all but one of them if i'd had better brakes.

  • Flying would have saved me from my crashes.

  • after having a sore neck yesterday but dosing liberally with ibubrofen and wine, i woke up this morning in total agony.

turns out i have a wry-neck, or trauma-induced torticollis as a result of a braindead courier riding into me last friday.

all i can say is it really really hurts and i can't move my head.
