You could try Brixton Cycles in Stockwell Road (they have a website). There is a proprietory tape which can be applied to seal the lock ring. From memory blue is where you can undo it and red seals it solid.

Freewheeling is for wankers

Brixton isn't open tomorrow... South is sucky :( I'll get charged at an Evans .. arse. is it normal for the sprocket/lockring to work loose? i want the red stuff then.. seal it so i never have to ss again!cheers :)

what have you been using to tighten up the lockring and sprocket?
cavendish is open sunday i think. central mind... -
• #6
well not me personally but my friend used a chain whip tool and then the guy @ cycle s today just tightened the lock ring with a spanner thing (well aware of the lack of technicality in this term)
yes cavendish are nice but very central..also i think bein a lady i get out of bein a wanker.. woop.

You could try Putney cycles, cheap and friendly and know about fg. Not sure of Sundays though.

I'd pop round and take and look at it for you but I live to far away
Put the sprocket on and try riding up the biggest nearest hill
You don't really need the lockring unless you are pulling skids
If you are skidding I'd suggest buying a lockring spanner

you absolute gift... i will be waiting outside when they open tomorrow! I re-nig on all my South hatin'
-

.. this may have been the problem mr buddah I was attempting (this being the operative word) to do so.
yes I think I'll be investing in one, problem is when all your friends have great tool boxes you get lazy with buying tools..

Miss Britten, Certainly a bit of hill climbing might be in order for sunday and then I'd find someone to have a closer look at your threads, if everything is clean and in order, then just a dab of grease and a proper tightening up ought to be enough, you are right about riding bikes though, especially fixed ones, it kinda gets in the blood
-
• #12
are you sure you haven't stripped the thread on your hub? if so you'll need a new one. If you haven't a lockring spanner is a must have tool, since you say you're addicted to fixed...
-
• #13
yes was worried that it might have threaded :/ having just left one of my jobs it is a less than ideal time for Chantelle to break..
-
• #14
Don't worry Miss Britten it is very easy to strip a hub I daresay we have all done it . Does Chantelle have a brake? If so just ride up a bloody great big hill and desist from skidding and it ought to be fine until you can cough up for a wheel build. One good tip though is flip flop hubs. Then if you strip the hub you just flip it over.

just read another thread about the same thing and it suggested used a cassette spacer between the lock ring and cog if there is a gap.. updates tomorrow. work tonight.
-
• #16
yes she does.. i was keeping them both on as i am too lazy to change it and thank god i didn't as s/s with one brake would not be an experience i would want in london!
-
• #17
good luck with it Miss Britten
I am going to go to bed now finking about what name(s) I should call my bike(s), Buddha .) -
• #18
cannay believe your bike has no name! sleep on it and suddenly you'll realise the error of your ways :) night night x

where are you miss?
I have tools and will be hitting richmond park in the morning, I am all over the south west.
-
• #20
you can tighten it up yourself, get a big screwdriver + a hammer, though using proper tools is better
-
• #21
that's right lpg go and hit 'chantelle' with a bloody great hammer

Yeah, didn't your mother ever teach you how to treat a lady? ;)
I reckon a lot of bike shops tighten lockrings this way

I'll pop down and you can give me a free service then...;)

If the hub was newish it can take some bedding in which results in a little slippage.
Threads might be okay yet. Fingers crossed. -
• #25
are you in London buddha?
Ok my lock ring on my fixed has started slipping today, i got it tightened by the lovely guy @ cyclesurgery spitalfields then it proptly did it again (leading to a very classy keeling over the traffic lights). To get me home I've flipped the wheel and am finding the adjustment back to freewheel odd, I thought I wasn't addicted to fixed but it turns out I am.
So now the question is are there any one out there not at the Nocturne who can speculate on what is up with it and then also advise some where SouthWest of the River which might be able to help me tomorrow?
Cheers Y'all
