has it got a rack on it?

..remove chainring & chain, refit chainring and chain, ride off.
I do recommend filling up the space in a U lock with the crank though but after you've locked it to something.
-
• #5
it's not locked up in that picture, he's using the lock to hold the chainring while he rotafixes the cog. Good idea if it actually works.

lol @ that pinarello
I thinks it's confused.

• #7
ah, I see. makes sense but why risk damaging £150 in cranks and a £50 lock...?
-
• #8
how the heck would you damage the lock or cranks?
unless they made from play-dohshould work though, i use the other rotafix chain method, i'll try this next time though

stresses involved in rotafix are greater than normal peddling. So, what's going to give first - hub threads strip (prob not), chainstay tubes fold (probably), crank chainring bends (possibly), lock er, I dunno about the lock. Thinking about it, I reckon you could generate enough force to do some damage this way, (in a way that you could not if using the normal rotafix method of chain on BB shell).
my 2p... just thinking aloud...

update. I tried this on a frame, and dented the frame. Now I've gotta pull the dent out.
So:
- don't do it
- I should take my own advice

Hang on a bloody minute...
I was wondering where the dint in the seat tube on my Mercian came from. I too tried this about a month ago when I was having massive problems with my cog unwinding and couldn't be bothered to wait for the right tools to arrive in the post.
Did it with a Fahgeddaboutit too.
Lesson learnt I believe...
- don't do it

The DLock one was when they had no spanner or tools to undo the wheel it was not suggested as an emergency procedure.

Ok then - how about we change this thread to 'how to get dents caused by rotafixing with a d-lock out of frames'?
-
• #24
you need a long, angled hammer. take the seat post out and knock the dent out from inside :-)

I have to admit to being sceptical....but my whip was slipping (threatening to skin my fingers) and the rotafix took all of about 40 secs.
Put an old t-shirt between bb and chain, and there was NO paint damage.

Apologies if posted before.
Looks too simple to be true, could it damage the frame?
