Wanted bass guitar....?

Posted on
  • I'm after a bass guitar for a project, the condition is unimportant, nasty, bashed about, damaged, what have you got? It doesn't even matter if the neck is straight as long as it can be strung.

PM me if you can help.

    Cheers

  • I've got an age old encore hunk of shit fake fender at a friends house.
    What's the project, I'm intrigued?

That sounds like it might do perfectly, how much would you want for it?

The project is a sculpture I've been working on for ages, its a full length morse code "broadcast" of War and Peace. The first version was done using an illegal FM transmitter with no publicity, but the one I'm developing at the moment will "play" Morse via the ripples in a glass of water.

When I started talking about this piece and how I might do it Gary pointed me in the direction of the Making of Jurassic Park vids on you tube. They actually got the effect with a guitar and after some research a bass guitar's neck (end on) seems to give the best ripples. The plan is that the bass and an activating mechanism will be enclosed in a plinth with the glass of water (Oak tree ref etc) directly on top.

Was going to build the internal, but a bridge, machine head and lump of hard wood will be as much a a cheap bass.

  • That sounds like the sort of thing that that guy in Iain Banks's The Crow Road was doing. Singing sculptures, except he was using the noise of the sea and funelling it through giant towers...

  • Now I'm even more intrigued. Will you be exhibiting it anywhere when it's finished?
I've PM'd you by the way

  • Yes, although this is being developed just to see what happens rather than for a specific show. I'm thinking of doing an open studio in a few months as there is a bunch of new stuff coming through, it would also of course be my pleasure to give you a private viewing when I get the £$%^ing thing working.

  • This is my old website, although its a bit out of date and is being redesigned and updated at the moment.

  • If age and quality isn't important I've probably got a westone I can donate. Once I've remembered who i've currently lent it to.

  • Awesome. Delivey on Wednesday as discussed.

  • I'm buying Object's old encore but I'm well up for buying a second to experiment with if you do remember where your westone is....

  • i've got a 1978 musicmaster but you can't have it, sorry.

Are we listing our bass guitars now?

  • I've got a mint, white on white medium scale Fender J-bass for sale... Probably too good for this project tho'... Available w/ Hiscox flight case... Apols for thread hijack, I need the dorra/space...

  • Nice.

  • Very... You wan? ;)

  • Would love but I'm also skint as buying white goods and 2 new bikes this year has ransacked my bank balance.
    Don't think I'd have any
chance of buying anything bass related until next year.

    I know the feeling... :(

  • Shabby isn't it.

  • ooh bass guitar show offing...

I've a 73 Fender Jazz, a knackered old thunderbird, an ibanez / artcore semi acoustic (that's up for sale) and the crappy old westone that was my first buy when I was 17 or something.

You're welcome to it, probably for free considering its age and the fact that it comes Mindfunk and Gary Clail Soundsystem stickers on the back.

Joe, I'm also thinking again about buying your fender too... or I could swap it for a pure silver spec left hand brake lever?

Ha! Throw in a coupla white Zaffiros and we might have a deal... ;P

  • Well I am picking up a new pair today! Just need a back up as I'm off playing it over Sept / Oct. and the artcore not the best live sound (i.e. it can sound like a piano down a well).

  • I'm down to one now.
It's an Ibanez 5 string. Brutal metal style. Gotta love the Drop B. Linked up to a 100w Hiwatt through various distortion pedals (Just incase the active wasn't dirty enough).

What I want is a nice Jazz bass too but it's very low on the wishlist at the moment.

  • Which reminds me that I need to pick up my mini muff.

  • Im on the hunt for a 90s USA P-bass. Specifically looking for bright red (torino red is its current name but i don't know what they called it in the 90s, poss moroccan or dakota) with rosewood board.
Im sure I can remember every stonewashed denim pop rock band in the 90s playing them, but they seem to have disappeared into the bad taste vaults.
If anyone has one, or sees one in a shop, please PM me. I am interested in other colours if anyone see's anything thats in just as bad taste.
