Facing tools

  • I have almost everything else - ok, not workshop quality, but I have everything that I need to put a bike together, but having built two bikes for Anna, and been VERY disappointed by the h/set performance, I was wondering who on here has h/set facing tools? It's a bore to have to go to a shop just for that, but it's so important to get a nice ride.

And would anyone be interested in going shares on some?

I was down at the polo court yesterday, tried a couple of bikes, and it seems that some other people could also use a good facing.

  • I know of plenty bike shops who do not have such tools, are they not extremely expensive?

Why *not *go to the shop for facing, its good to have some sort of links to industries in your town, at least the bikey ones.

  • aren't they about £400-£500?

  • Yeah, they are expensive - that's why I am asking if anyone wanted to go shares on them.

Bike shops are ok, but I prefer to do most things myself, if I can.

  • they are making about a zillion % profit on that tool. The price is insane. Fuck me senseless.

  • The Park facing tools are uber-expensive.. and don't forget that you'll need a fork crown cutter too (another £500 from Park)

    Ceeway have a £100 tube facer/reamer and £54 crown-race cutter.

They also have some more expensive ones here.

You're not going to be facing up dozens of frames a day, so the economy jobbies should do you. Learn how to use them properly (never ever turn the cutter backwards, use decent cutting paste..) so you don't destroy the cutter.

  • i have hundreds of reamers a home :O i never knew that they were that expensive !

Park tools have a hooje markup. Standard bike-fetish stuff.

Bet no-one has your reamer brand tattooed on their body..

  • BIll I think Roberto may have some facing tools, I know he has some b.b threading tools. Try p.m him and I think he will let you use them for a small donation.
