700c fork for a 650c frame

Posted on
  • Hello everyone!

I after a HHSB, and I have found something really nice, a lo-pro really sweet, and not bad in price.

The problem is that the frame came without forks, the guy has told me that I need a 650c fork and having a look in ebay I found nothing, and what is wrost nothing in end items. Having a good search in google, I found nothing, I after something in steel and 1", I know is plenty of them in carbon and 1"1/8, other posibility is order one to a framebuilder, but the price is scary.

So my conclusion, is going to be hard to find one.

So, thinking in other posibilities, I thought what about putting a 700c fork, is only 5cm difference.
I know I will change the geometry of the bike, but I will lift the BB, that is good, and relax the position of myself on the bike, that is also ok, the angle of the headtube will increase but with a straigh fork should be OK.

    Now the questions are,

should I put a 700c one? yes, no, why?

Do anyone in here have a 650c fork in steel 1" and want to sell/swap/donate?

Any one has another idea I haven't think off?

    Thanks for your ideas

  • 650 is not at all uncommon,

you can even get modern fuji-tracks with 650's

plus the endless amount of youth sized road bikes.

you could probably get away with using a fork of an old 26 1 3/8 equipped bike.

Your spoilt for choice really, its only a problem if you want something super high-end track stylee

  • It depends on the geometry of the frame. On some frames you can get away with it (specially if you're still gonna use a 650 wheel) others will look like a chopper.

Can you post a picture maybe (or a link).

  • Someone else on here has a very similar frame to that, in grey, sorry cant remember your name but i met you at polo last week.

migh tbe worth speaking to him about who makes it, might help the search for a replacement!

    Christ thats nice!
My mates dad has a real nice Jim Docherty frame with the strengtheners, always loved the look.

This one looks a bit like that polish pursuit frame that floats about on velospace..
