dude, i already your name as tomisinki or tominski, as if it were scandinavian or russian or summink, but it says 'Tom is kinky' and now i feel caught out. I should pay more attention.

I go 40Nm. I have never found a torque value for Sugino 75s - but 40Nm is an average of all the other values I have found for similar alloy cranks onto steel spindles - always worked well for me, zero loosening.

Answer from Sugino. That is an awfully low torque. Lowest I've ever heard for a crankset [going to send another email to doublecheck]:
Dear Mr. --
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
The torque is 12-16N.m.
However, this torque specification is appropriate
under the condition that the SG75 cranks are used with the NJS parts. We recommend to grease the BB spindle slightly
to prevent seizing and rust on the spindle. We also recommend to do maintenance periodically.

Shady bro., that's whack! Torque these to 32-38 N.m or 23.6-28 lb.ft. It does not matter if you grease the axel, this won't affect torque required...this is a huge loose press fit. If it were a small fitting or a very high torque I'd have a diff. answer. Again, the answer you got from sugino is dead wrong....prob. a conversion error.

Cheers for the info Hippy ! :D
12-16Nm is madness !!! My Ti seat clamp bolt is rated at 11NM !
Got to be wrong.

Interesting they recommend a slight amount of grease on the spindle too?
Anyway, I have fitted them temporarily until I finish the build.
On a further note, didn't have crank bolts so picked up some allen key ones from BLB on my way home, are these the best to use, or would I be better with something else? Not got an allen key attachment for my rachett set/torque drive? -

If you don't have a torque wrench then I would recommend a metric shit tonne. It's very hard to overtighten a crank when you first fit it with standard tools (ie no 3 ft pipes on the end of your spanner). I use a long allen key with a handle that's about 25cm long and tighten it as hard as I can.
You can mess up cranks by continually tightening the bolts every time they feel loose because the cranks gradually work their way onto the spindle. However, if the crank gets loose then you should tighten them ASAP.

I've always used the same method as Momentum. I've never even seen a torque wrench although I have lots of new cranks now so I might invest in one (or borrow one - tynan do you do loaner wrenches?)
-

I have the torque wrench, just not the hex attachment piece.
I have some hex pieces that came with a ratchet screw driver set, might be able to use these with a socket, will have a see tonight. Failing that, i'll just get it tight and keep an eye on it. -

If you come round you are welcome to torque your nuts.
I have two - 1 - 20 Nm and 20 - 110 Nm.

Since I was looking them up I thought I'd share the Planet X Torque values..

so what torque should it be if NOT being used with an nsj bb? I'm doing mine to 40nm

Do you mean theSugingo's?
ANyhoo,
I haz da concerns of doing my build without a torque wrench. Is this madness? -

How many bikes have you built? How many times have your cranks fallen off? How many threads have you stripped? How much is your bike worth? How much are the parts worth? How much do you have to spend on tools? So many variables.. so little time...

2 builds, both polo, medium success, not 'usual' bb.
None
One striped hub
Fair amount
As much as I can afford
Practically none.Oh.

None

Loads and loads
I steal them from old peopleI torque everything to 'As tight as I can' * and all is well.
*(apart from the cranks when I put them back on before calshot, because I forgot)
I enjoy our chats :-)

I never bothered with a torque wrench until I went full carbon.. but..

I need one really. Recommendy? Need 4, 5 and 6mm allen and 14 and 15 box/socket.
My 9nm for the seat clamp is, as tight as a 8 inch long allen key will get it.
And my 8nm for the stem to carbon steerer is, until the bolts pop through to the other side of the stem. All square taper cranks are 'As tight as a peanut butter spanner will go' always, not exception :-) They are not that length by accident.
Few questions for my first fixed build...
What is the torque needed on a Sugino 75 attached to a Sugino 75 BB?
Also, how tight do I do the cog and lock nut onto the hub?
