Am toying with getting one of these, pricey but supposed to be proper breathable - not bike specific as such but nice to have a hood, incredible lightweight as well - saw one get a good review in a bike mag, even tho it wasnt bike specific.

oohh. that is nice :)
if only this was waterproof
-

if it has to be waterproof and very breathable the gore XCR and E-vent are the most breathable waterproof fabrics on the market. i have had both and they work well. at the moment i have an endura e-vent jacket and before that i had a freestyle xcr jacket. i like the E-vent one because after washing you iron it to reactivate the fabric so water beads on the surface before wetting out so it's easy to keep it in good order. you are going to be spending £100 plus though.

+1 for eVent - that stuff is great - starts breathing more quickly then Gore-Tex.
I reproofed it recently (ie. I got around to washing it), and it was a trip to the launderette to 'tumble dry in' the solution.
Like the sound of ironing though - does that work with any old reproofer/after just washing without reproofing. What heat setting blah blah?

yeh i've just bought some e-vent 3/4 trousers, looks like I might get to use them this weekend on the secret london ride if the weather forecast stays the same..
-

ooh, thanks guys!
The Endura i have is 8years old and survived very well, just the elastic has gone, so will probably stick with them...... let the overtime begin!

from the care label:
for optimum performance frequent washing is required.
machine wash warm with liqid detergent secure all zippers and closures rinse twice, hang dry steam iron warm to rejuvenate water repellent finish, do not use bleach, do not use fabric softner. do not dry clean.it say the same inside my E-vent montane waterproof.
you should always use non-bio to wash your technical fabrics.

my north face waterproof is good. it's got big zipable armpit vents and is pretty breathable in general. think it set me back about £80.
or just do what everyone else over there does and attach an umbrella to your bike!

I have one of the Montane featherlite jackets and find it pretty good, I carry my own insulation so only require something to keep me dry and cool.

Massive fan of eVent, I have a Rab Latok Mountaineering jacket, that occasionally gets press-ganged onto my bike, and it does me great....
However, whilst it's not cycle specific... Sweedish brang Haglofs make a bonkers light Gore-tex smock - http://www.haglofs.se/prd/visaprod.asp?ID=1270&nid=416&lang=en&CatNr=262&CatNr2=&xCatNr=&NP=&Q=2&HMtrl=&Str=&show=&ak=&nid2=470 that weighs 175grams in a size large.

£15 for a jacket with that kind of fabric is very good value:
Water Resistance Rating: 10,000mmH2O Breathability Rating: 8,000g/sqm/24 hrsE-vent figures:
Water resistance rating 30,000mm hydrostatic head with a minimum MVTR of 21,000g/m2/24hrs
the reinforced thicker bits on my montane jacket:
Water resistance rating 30,000mm hydrostatic head with a minimum MVTR of 15,000g/m2/24hrsthe hydrostatic head is the vertical column of water it would take to permeate the fabric (i.e 30m)

Gill pro-speed works for me, but it as no pockets at all. However I rode up Ditchling Beacon in it without drowning.

platini, do you own one?
I was going to post a link to them earlier, I own a Humbolt, same as this but the smock version, really great bit of kit and an amazing company, probably one of the best customer services I've ever experienced. They're also ecological and ethical, but pricey, mine was £180 and that Stormtrack is £250!! -

check chain reaction for good deals. i have a Gill eVent jacket and it is really really fantastically good. i've worn it in blazing sunshine (following a rainstorm before you ask) and didn't overheat. super light too. wouldn't go back to goretex. Gill is v good quality kit too.

http://onebelowzero.com/sizes.asp - if you want to check sizing.Looks like half the form is going to be wearing the same jacket haha
my 8 year old Altura is pretty much dead these days, and i therefore require a new one!
Im in Japan, where humidy during the rainy season reaches the high 80's.. so , i need a jacket that is very breathable, but still waterproof.
any suggestions? has also gotta be OK for casual wear.
