  • Saw a few cyclists pulled over with a few cops around, west-bound side of Clerkenwell.

One guy on black bike with red deep section rims, another looked more like a Charge Plug.

Perhaps catching red light runners? Although one guy ran the lights while the copper was standing there and he did nothing so maybe they had their quota?

    Anyone on here?

  • They're doing some kind of census.

  • ...yeah its a census

probably counting all the red light runners n dead puppies

  • a wot d'you wanna be nicked for census

    a) running a red
    b) no brakes
    c) owning an arrospok (50 dorrah fine!)
    d) hiphop slave bike tax

or they could be on the hunt for Turgid Conscript?

I think TC is still in his closet :D

  • One of them could *be* Morbid Cuntstrop!

  • I saw the poliss using a radar gun thingy on cyclists at RP on saturday... do they actually nick the roadiescum for riding fast or what? they were at the bottom of the windy steep bit and at the gentler hill round the other side...

  • roadiescum

    You were saying?

  • You were saying?

    Ban the splitter! ;-)

Apart from the fact that quite a few of us moonlight as 'roadiescum' when we're not on our fixed bikes...

There's a 20mph speed limit in RP, which applies to bikes too. Evidently the police are enforcing it.

  • Roadie fight!

20mph is fscking ghey.. that's trackstanding speed ;)

I heard from someone with a copper in the family that the 20mph in Richmond Park can only be enforced if you're piloting a motorized vehicle.

  • If you mean Slackers Hill with the bend, I was 43mph at the bottom on Sunday when they weren't there and then got towed by a Yaris doing 22 all the way round!

True on public highways, not true in Royal Parks where by-laws are in force.

  • 20mph isn't that ghey when going up the hills.

if i ever get stopped i'l bamboozle them with gear ratios and leg rpm and insist that my theoretical maximum with this ratio is 21mph but i would need a tailwind and an extra 20psi in my tyres so no way was i doing over 20 officer

  • I've heard of cyclists in RP having their wrists slapped and names taken, nobody getting fined.

  • Aha maybe they were using the cyclists as practice. I can't believe cars get to go very fast in there with so many cyclists.

  • Yup I got pulled over about 20 mins ago...that light was def amber though.
The constable was pretty okay about it and not to patronising...even though I wasn't actually in the wrong.

  • The cars don't go fast because 1) there's too many of the idiots all at RP and 2) they're all trying to take photos of the deer.

  • I blame Boris. He's gonna stop us drinking whilst riding next.

Hmmmm. Irritating, I always have to jump that light to turn right without getting squashed. I guess I'll figure it out when I get there.

  • re richmond Park - surely this would mean that you would legally have to have some sort of speed measuring deviced fitted to your bike.

Not really. The onus is on you to comply, and as there are already laws about cycling furiously the answer could be as simple as slow down and cycle leisurely... if you're breaking a sweat it's probably not leisurely.

Bylaws don't change other laws, and it's up to you to comply and it's perfectly possible to comply without having a cyclocomputer.

  • there'd been a nasty spill in RP the week before so it was more of a 'being seen to do something' exercise

20 mph, isn't that optimum cornering speed before you experience pedal strike?

    :^]

  • They could always get you for 'furious riding' that's been in force since the 19th century - long before bicycle speedometers... :-(
