What is vintage about bib shorts?
They're generally good and better than normal shorts as they don't fall down. Try and get ones with mesh rather than lycra for the straps. Only problem is when you need a wee - I like to HTFU and just go down my leg.

Gary, thats because they're for a big top strong man not cycling.

They're good for those spontaneous Freddy Mercury moments.

i like bib shorts because sometimes when i'm wearing normal shorts they just fall right off. plus i can eat spaghetti while riding without having to tuck a napkin in my collar.

Bib shorts more comfy, don't dig into your spare tire!!!
Also keep your core a bit warmer. However there is the peeing issue!!! Doubled up like the hunchback of Notre Dame at a urinal is likely to get some strange looks!!! Other option to take of almost all your clothes.....prefer to do this in a cubicle!!
Mind you I have some bib tights which come up even higher at the front,,,,,that realy take some flexibilty to do the No1s!!!!!

as its nearing Easter I'm going to JC this thread.
I currently own a pair of the DHB shorts- not Bib shorts, but the other kind, and they were great, but the expansion of my leg muscles has caused them be so tight that it feels like they cut the circulation off to my legs, which is not ideal when cycling as it causes agony, often- as proved by brighton rides, whereas on the ride I did the other day to Reading and back, wearing some running leggings, i was fine.
So I was wondering, what shorts to get for someone who's probably going to start training a lot more seriously from this summer onwards ( and they must have Tri functionality too).
go on, help me out.

Non bib shorts can lead to bollock slippage and to builder's bum exposure.
Most bibs can be whipped down at the front to allow for urination. If, however, you feel the need to pee while you pedal, it is a good idea to carry a bottle of water in order to flush your shorts afterwards. Water that is, not an energy drink. If you flush your shorts with energy drink, you will become very sticky and still smell of pee.

Have enough pairs for a fresh pair for each day of a long event.
Assos and Castelli are superb if you can afford them

you have to stick your hand further down to readjust - endura seem ok

pros : no problem of jersey riding up and causing cold exposed patch on lower back
cons: bathroom excursions in a hurry

I've been looking at Santini (something with their intech gel insert) eg.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=35117and Giordana (possibly Body clone, or tenax) eg.
http://www.parkerwear.co.uk/parker/3521/mia/d/giordana+body+clone+bibshorts+black+a514+2007/pid/31758303Apparantly these manufacturers produce quality bibs without the Assos/casteli pricetag.

I've recently discovered the awesome-ness of bibs and have some DHB (about £70) ones that are great. I looked at lots of reviews and the DHB ones came back as best for the money, and better than some bibs that are a lot more dollar
My major complaint apart from interesting toilet moments is the lack of range for lady bib shorts, the only decent ones I can find are fucking £180 Assos!
So yes I wear mens ones, but they do the job pretty well, really comfy although I do feel like I should wrestle someone in them. MOC laughs at me constantly about them. -

SMP4Bike have appeared to solve that problem. Check the last image on that product page.
They make mens and ladies versions.personally i think it's the worst possible place for a zip!

Worth checking out www.prendas.co.uk. They look very cheap for good quality Santini and other team bibshorts and some rather funky retro style ones.

Pearl Izumi FTW, all pro no cons...

It's all about Giordana Tenax Bibshorts. Best in roadcyclinguk's group test.
Hi all,
I'm looking into maybe getting some bib shorts for the vintage look whilst on a roadtrip this summer. Are there any pro's or cons associated with wearing said bib whilst cycling?
I've found some good ones:
