Bringing this back from the dead, I'm going to go for a date of August 31st. For those serious about it, stick it in your diary now, although I will start a new thread about it at some point with a slightly different route. Same destination though!

up for august 31.

sounds good. Kent is excellent cycling country!

nice one sam, it's in the diary.

Sounds great Sam but we may want to change the route after Charing as the A252 and A28 tend to have pretty fast traffic and, although it might add a couple of miles, the back lanes through beautiful countryside might be nicer.

Hi Dave
I'd actually already changed the route, but thanks anyway :0)

It might involve a dodgy no right turn in Chilham as Bikely wouldn't plot it automatically, but I'll be doing a reccy in the next couple of weeks anyway.

Gutted - turns out I've gotta go to a christening near Canterbury on the Saturday and will be waking up at the wrong end of the route on August 31st. Would be up for a Sunday ride to reccy the route in the next couple of weeks if anyone fancies it.
After seeing Sainsburys Ed's thread about riding to Canterbury, I've been thinking about organising a ride of my own. Not straight down the A2 though, I was thinking more like this.

Being a local I know all of the route, well apart from the last 20 miles or so, but from there all we have to do is follow the signs to Canterbury! If you click on show, then profile you'll be able to see the profile, although it's currently bust and I've requested a fix for the route.
For now I am just testing the water. If there's a reasonable response I'll definitely sort something out.
Oh yeah, it's 72 miles by the way, so anyone taking part will need to have done some sort of distance riding before. And I would only do it on a Sunday as I can't make Saturdays. I'm on holiday for a fortnight as from tomorrow, so once I'm back I will review this thread and make some sort of decision!
Sam
PS We would actually pass within 300yds of my house (as the crow flies) just before the half way mark, I could easily arrange for some free food and drink for any participants!
