• More details here.

  • is it for couriers and fgss'ers?

  • Ah, that sounds amazing. Sadly not here though.

  • Anyone is welcome, although gears are reccommended.

  • Sadly,Dazzer insists on geared machines only for this so if anyone wants to organise a fixed gear ride to the stones then do it.He reckons it's against the clock and gears are superior blah blahblah....

  • Fucking roadie scum.

  • Get back in time for the Bridges Ride the next night..

  • Last year's report: http://www.thehippy.net/nucleus/index.php?itemid=873

Ride gears unless you are v. fast on fixed.

    It's in the calendar now.

  • nice report hippy, can't believe it is only 83 miles.
might well get down with it (and possibly clock up the first geared miles of the year!)

  • It is tempting.

Now what do these flappy things on my handlebars do?

  • Still in need of a geared bike

  • my pics from '05 here:

  • yeah this ride is open to everyone. i've done this the last couple of years and it's a sweet, sweet night ride, so very worth it when you rock up in time for the sunrise. The route aint flat and it is a race against the sun at about 20mph average factoring in breaks hence the need for gears.

As Overdrive says, if you were keen and wanted to ride it fixed you could leave earlier, say 7:30 instead of 8:30/9:00 in order to meet us there for sunrise. treat yourself.

  • Hi, since I can't make this, would you mind posting the route so I can do it another time?

  • Hippies

I believe you can only "hump the stones" on the two solstice days.. so you could do the ride but you'd then have to scale the fence and dodge bullets to sniff yourself a stone..

thanks for the heads up, i'd best wear trainers then.

  • The route we follow is..

Speakers Corner, Hammersmith, A315 to Chiswick, Kew, Bedfont, then A30 for the most part through Staines, Camberley, Basingstoke, Andover, Amesbury/Durrington and a last dash for a couple of miles on the A303 to the stones for approx 4:45am and the sunrise. The A30 is a good road and once we’re out of London it’s beautifully quiet, undulating* and smooth. (*for undulating read – has hills).

We factor in regular short breaks and try to take everything we need with us from the start so bring plenty of liquids, carbs, sweeties, waterproofs and warm clothes to stick on for when we get there.

Half the riders rode back to London last year but there are plenty of options to jump on a train from 2 or 3 stations within 10 miles or so from the henge.

Expect druids, Hare Krishna’s, zOy-DeR drinking locals and shamanic drumming to help us welcome in the longest day… don’t forget your camera :-)

  • zOy-DeR drinking locals:-)

    That's you innit?

  • You blew my cover!!

Actually I was thinking if sellotaping a sort of 'zoy-der bagpipe' under my arm with a small tube snaking its way into the corner of my mouth. Matching colostomy bag.

  • And you are leading?

Ahhhve jahst changed moiy moind, Ahhhm gonna give id a miss this yer.

  • ride cancelled. Cas can't make it.

  • does anyone camp on this ride? like once you get there? i want to ride to avebury around this time, and these two arent that far apart, a friend of mine and i might join this for part of the outward journey, if thats all right?

I'll probably bring a tent. There's lots of bridleways that you can pitch in. Or Cholderton Woods. There's a YH right there too.

  • i'm up for this :) . can show hippo how to ride ;)
