River route from Charing Cross to Hammersmith?

Posted on
  • Is it possible to follow the river northside of the thames (on a bike) from Charing Cross to Hammersmith? Anyone?

  • You can't go all the way. You have to kind of cut through Fulham once you get to Cheyne Walk.

  • Yep, head down to Trafalgar Square then either take Northumberland Avenue to the Embankment or Whitehall to Parliament Square and onto the Embankment.

Follow the river side road through Chelsea.

Then it gets interesting, you have to break left when you get to the house boats (Lots Rd) and then cut through a private housing estate / industrial park place.

After that, you have to take riverside footpaths which are annoying. You might want to leave the river and head direct to H'smith from Putney Bridge Rd or similar.

Not quite true - Lots Rd, Harbour Avenue, Town Meade Rd, Carnwath Rd...

Sadly this is true. I've been hunting for a riverside route back from Westie drinks for ages. Still not found one.

South Bank is better (at least to Vauxhall Cross) from the West End, apart from the bit by the Eye, but you can go on the freshly tarmaced bit round the back of the hospital.

EDIT, thanks to Mashton, I think i've found one.

Fair enough, but you still have head inboard once you get to Hurlingham (I believe).

Yeah, which is annoying - bloody long brick wall, which you know has park / footpaths on t'other side. grrrrrrrr. We need some guerrilla urban demolition!

  • I reckon I could get up enough speed to have a crack.
Head down, dip the shoulder - BANG!
    :)

  • Maybe my new Titanium elbow could be instrumental...

  • With my 110kgs of pure muscle and Mashton's adamantium skeleton, we'll get you there, Squoocher.
    Two man wrecking crew.

  • How is the elbow, Mashton?

  • on the mend, but a long way from being able to control a bike. so weird to no be able to straighten your arm. little by little it gets straighter though.

not too much pain anymore, unless i do something silly.

  • I hope you aren't too bored yet. Take it easy, hombre.

  • Thanks a lot for that folks!!!
