could you not file flats into the axles where they will go through the track end slot, its only 1/2mm per side (probably just remove the thread). can a replacement axle be had cheap/easily?

File away.
I had this problem with my bridgestone, and all you have to do is file on opposite sides of the axles until it fits.
The track nuts will still work just fine as well so there's no worries.
Be careful, but don't worry- a good quality track axle is built to have this done. -

Shimano DA NJS Keirin hub axle conversion kits. Bad news is they were discontinued for 2008. You can convert a 120/10mm to a 100/9mm. Or the rarer 110/8mm, 100/8mm.
If your stuck I can speak to Seiya.

I had that too, my dropouts were 8mm but I had to get a 110mm axle anyway for my Phil hub and convert. The Keirin axles come in 8x110mm as oppose to 9x120mm

I was a bit hesitant to file down my sys-x axles as they were just going to be a stopgap until they can organise their own wheels.
I was previously going to recommend that they build with sys-x because they are such good value.
I don't know if system-x axles qualify as "good quality". :o
Maybe I should file their drops?
Need a cheap solution as they are not going to spring for DA hubs. -
• #7
Hey Jason, do you have a file or some-such?
-
• #8
DON'T file the drops.
Always file the axle.
The guys at kalavinka went nuts for a while on my dia compes, until they fitted. -
• #9
If it's a 110mm rear, System Ex hubs DO fit. I have them on my Panasonic and they are working fine. You will need to file the axles down though.

• #10
But if you file the axle surely it'll lessen the thread?
-
• #11
Got the file, am on it - only going to file the 5mm or so the directly mates-up with the slot.
-
• #12
no effect to the thread as far as i could tell.
The guys at kalavinka seemed to have done it thousands of times. -
• #13
But if you file the axle surely it'll lessen the thread?
Yep your filing the thread away to make the axle narrower, but ONLY where is is in the track end so the nut will never go onto the filed part. the axle will be weakened slightly, but should still be stronger than an 8 or 9mm axle.

file it, had to do the same

My Suzue Promax front had this already done from new. Can't weaken it that much.

same on my gran compe

hi all, maybe someone can help me with this, as my problem relates to a similar area...I should mention first that my mechanical knowledge is extremely and embarrassingly limited, but anyways...I had Condor build me up some wheels ages ago, got the asymmetric Condor hubs laced to some deep-v's...the wheels are to go on my 06 (I think) Condor Pista...the rear hub seems too wide to fit between the drop-outs...I believe that the hubs have different axle lengths, but I didn't realise this when I ordered the build, and it wasn't mentioned by the guy at Condor who sold them to me, though I am not sure if this is the issue...What can I do about this? the margin is very narrow, so perhaps I could stretch the stays just a tiny bit (which may be really dumb, I don't know), or do I need to get a new hub or what?
Any advice much appreciated, and apologies for my lacking knowledge

I too have an asymmetric Condor/Goldtech laced into a Deep V on the rear on my Condor Pista. (Good taste in bikes BTW!).The fit is snug but a bit of brute force and supidity got it in the drop outs fine.

thanks justMouse...indeed, good taste in bikes hehe...so I will give it a bit of force and will try to get it in there...
Somebody I know has bought themselves a beautiful classic Keirin frame from Japan.
To get them up and riding it quicker I was going to lend them some old System-x/Mavic wheelset I had spare.
The problem is, the axles don't fit.
By this I mean the axle circumference is too great for the trackend slot (which is 9mm F+R).
Axles spacing is fine length ways.
Anybody seen this before and more importantly know where to get a budget hub/wheelset that will fit an older Keirin frame?
Thanks
