  • How do i burn a movie from my laptop onto a dvd that will then work on a 'normal' home DVD player?

    P.S Im a mac user.

Something from that lot should do it.

  • wouldn't the best thing be to plug your laptop into your tv, and play it that way, if you've got front row on your laptop you should be just able to av out into tv and do that, saves you burning a dvd.
I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong.

  • he'll probably need a dongle to output video. macbooks/MBPs have a proprietary display output AFAIK.

if the content is not copyright protected and not too long you should be able to use the iDVD software that comes installed on the mac. but i've never tried this so i don't know - i have the dongle.

EDIT don't know if iDVD can handle DivX or Xvid files, sorry.

  • if you are using imovie, there's a function within that.

i use idvd, which is bundled with macs, and you can drag and drop your media files and create menus. your files need to be QT though i think prior to burning.

  • The free route:

To rip a DVD (regrdless of copyright protection, DRM or region) use Handbrake - free from http://handbrake.fr/

To burn a domestic DVD player compatible DVD - use iDVD.
