i'm going the night before and staying in swindon. there are some early morning trains from paddington to swindon, and a c. 4mile ride to the start. the start is anytime between 8 and 930.
myself and 2 colleagues from work are going, there were originally 5 of us but two bailed. so one of the entries went to hippy, the other is still up for grabs. -

I am very much considering this, I need to check something first. If I went I would drive so could take two or may be three people early in the morning.
I will tell you now it is not 4 mile from Swindon to Shrivenham unless you are maybe right on the edge of Swindon at Stratton St Margret so give your self abit more time. I grew up a couple of miles east of Shrivenham.
I would not ride along the A420 that stretch between Swindon and Shrivenham is horrible, fast road which is narrow.
Try this route, a bit further but alot nicer

Tommy, it'll be early Sunday morning so the road should be ok and I will end up back in London if I try any tricky detours :)
Are you gonna do it or what? Mal and I are gonna head there Sat arvo and stay somewhere Sat night, coming back Sunday after the ride.

My initial keenness is tempered with the thought of a pre 6 am rise to get there in time. I get up at just after 6 most week days I don't want my w/e to be an even earlier rise so I am wimping out. Add to that a two hour solo drive.
Be careful on the A420 I know a guy who was hit off riding that section woke up on the verge some time later not knowing what had happened and only realized when he arrived at work late.
Swindon is a bit of shit hole and Shrivenham a bit of a shitty suburban village but the rest of the ride should be pretty nice. The white horse have some interesting history and it is worth checking out. The first on the ride (and oldest is the best though).

i used to cycle along the a420 and I can vouch for it being unpleasant.... i'm tempted too, i think for the same reasons tommy is (i grew up just near there). I think I have too much college work to take the whole day off though :S
Ok, short notice and all, but I still have 1 (one) entry available for the whitehorsechallenge THIS SUNDAY. PM me for details.
If Hippy can do it you can too! :P
