A massive thank you to Steve S who came through with a huge spanner- still no success but I'll keep trying.
Thanks again.

bring on the scaffold pole!

After you left I found the 3 foot torque wrench (last used in anger to tension the chain on a Ducati Monster), but my socket set does not include the monster socket required!
I'll let you know how it pans out.
Cheers,

what are you trying to undo?

FSA bottom bracket- left hand cup came out fine, right hand cup will not admit defeat.

hmm
bb cups are alloy, if the frame is steel, it might be time to go through the motions:
penetrating oil or plusgas - get the bb tool in a vice and hold the frame to turn
caustic soda (be careful)- that'll break the bond between steel and alloy. -

Frame is alloy- Cannondale.
Steve and I considered the options re: penetrating lubricants and we came to the conclusion that the seal is so tight that we would just end up spraying the general vicinity.Leverage would seem to be key, but I am unwilling to clamp the frame.

yeah, don't clamp the frame.
I've never had a BB defeat me yet, but where possible I like the wheels and tyres on so you can get a long lever on the BB tool whilst the bike is upright, then you can use downward force to maximum effect.
you are turning it the right way? just checking

I have one just like this too, I am in SE London - Catford, although not around until next week.

Yep, turning it the right way- checked that about 5 times just to make sure that I was not making a schoolboy error!
I'm at a loss now as to how to shift it- might have to go the shameful route of taking it into the shop and admitting defeat.
Mainly because I would hope that the shop would replace the frame if they break it getting the BB shell out...
I've just stripped the bike down and got to the point where I reached for the tool...that was not there.
If anyone has a large spanner/adjustable spanner that will go to 36/37mm and is in the Greenwich area please let me know- I will pay rental with beer if that is acceptable?
