Spokes and stuff... how hard is this? Hard!

trying to figure out what length spokes I need for a wheel build. Miche High flange primatos 36h to open pro rims with dt swiss spokes. tried working it out on the spocalc, firstly i did not realise there so many types of open pro rims! It does not say which type on parker/ribble/wiggle etc.
What is the best lacing for front wheel build and back wheel build. Is radial a bit shit, I though it catched the cross-winds a bit on one I experienced.
i wanna oredr some spokes but kinda can't.....help is much loved.

nobody coming this way to investigate such a problem, can't say I blame them, matheeematics/calcuuuuuuuuuulations/ boooooring, but brill if you could figure it out..

3X will be about 290mm, my condor hubs laced to Open pro's are. I can't imagine there will be much difference.

You need crosses on the rear for torque transfer, go with three cross if this is your first build.It is common for a reason.

you'll need to find spec or measure the miche hubs to enter those dimensions in.

Ok, i have used the spoke calc posted by Tommy and this is my results.
Not sure if anyone else on here is running High flange Dura Ace on Deep Vs, in which case they may be able to confirm these measurements. In fact, do Deep Vs have 575mm inside diameter, when i measured, it was somewhere between this and 572mm?

3x is roughly 290-2mm

Brilliant service from Bens in Millwaukee, ordered some bits and asked about the spoke length as they build Deep Vs onto Dura Ace 110, and they gave the the required length - 276mm if anyone needs to know.

Step by step guide:

1. Buy hub
   
2. Buy rim
   
3. Buy 2 spokes + 2 nipples (old ones will suffice)
   
4. Cut spokes to an exact length (e.g.200mm)
   
5. Screw nipples on to spokes until they are flush with bottom of screwdriver slot.
   
6. Add a blob of glue to each so they dont unscrew
   
7. When glue is dry, put spokes in opposite holes on the rim.
   
8. Measure between the nearest ends of the spokes (inside rim).
   
9. Add the measurement to 400mm (2 x 200mm, right?)
   
10. This gives you the ERD (effective rim diameter).
    
11. Measure hub dimensions (accurate to about 0.5 mm is good enough. Use a cheap vernier or steel rule).
    
12. Decide on 3 cross, or whatever.
    
13. Plug all the values into spocalc.
    
14. Buy spokes of correct length.
    
15. Build wheel.
    
16. Ride and enjoy.
    

Ok, i built some primatos onto open pros not so long ago, however there were 32hole, if you have 36hole then the measurements will differ slightly. These are the measurements i have in my little book anyway:

Rear: Because the rear is single sided fixed you'll need to dish the wheel, hence different spoke lengths for drive and non-drive sides. So, for a 3 cross build (yes this is def the best for the rear) drive side needs 293 and non-drive needs 295.
Measurements are as follows:
Rim ERD: 605
Centre to flange: (drive side: 29) (non-drive side: 44)
Pitch circle diameter: 60 (same both sides)

Front: The one i built i did radial, so for this you'd need 273.
If you want to build it 3 cross then i'd guess approx 293 would be probably be cool. You could work out the definite length with the DT swiss calculator. The measurements you'd need are:
Rim ERD: 605
Centre to flange: 33
Pitch circle diameter: 60
As you'll be putting in 'user defined' hub options then you'll have to make sure nipple size is set to 12mm, and set the diameter of spoke hole to 2mm roughly.

p.s. for anyone building on deep v rims, the ERD is 582...it actually says it on the sticker over the rim weld!

tons of info but i am going to order spokes and get a good guy in here to do the build. Thanks for all the replies. On rims, I am debating about Mavic CXP33/Mavic Open Pro/ DT Swiss Road which one is the best for durability and keeping true.

Mavic all the way, I love my open pro's but can see why the CXP33's style is appealing.

Never used or built these rims, but their range is very similar in price to mavic's. Personally i'd stick to what i know, and i know mavics are very good. But then maybe it's nice to have something that everyone else doesn't?!
I'd also rate DT's rims very highly, having built a bunch of these i've never had a problem with them. Plus their deep section 1.2 rim is the same profile and size as a deep v, but is made so much better!

anyone know if dt swiss champion spokes are double butted?

Hey guys, thought I'd carry on a thread rather then start a new one only to be told 'Search function is a wonderful thing'

I've just bought a Mavic Open Sport rim and On-One double fixed hub. I've put the appropriate info into various spoke calculators (32h 3x) and come back with a spoke length of 293mm. Seeing as I'm obviously going for the cheapest wheel build possible (Rim £14.99 from chainreaction, hub £17 inc p&p) I was hoping to get me some of the ACI alpina db spokes but they come in either 292 or 294mm sizes, do I round up or down? Sheldon says round up so I'm tempted to do this but was hoping for clarification, any help would be muchly appreciated.
