  • Anyone offer some tips on which pedals to choose for street riding. There are so many versions of SPD type. I don't really like the toe clip and strap idea I can't imagine if you bang into a car, or on take-off, that you free or fix yourself to the pedal quickly. If anyone know of any good threads to this, let me know. xx

  • time attacks all the way there not as cheap as spd's but so so so much better and steer clear of eggbeaters.

  • i've got some Crank Bros Candy-C's. no tension adjustment but really easy to clip in and out of. great for when a scooter decides to jump in the cycling lane without looking.

They come in a bunch of colors so you can match it your bike too :)

  • The general consensus on here is Time Atac Aliums with a shoe of your choice.

  • time atacs it is then, will they fit to a sugino 75 crank ok. Thanks guys, I have never heard of these pedals so cheers alot. I have new campagnolo 80's version straps and clips but I cant work them out confidently, I did have a bad accident after only 3 weeks riding, so I do not wanna end up mashed again. I was riding fixed without being attached to the pedals, stupid I know.

  • steer clear of eggbeaters.

I'm not sure this is good advice, I personally wasn't going to get dickbeaters, but got given some smartys (like the candy c) and have used them without trouble for over a year.

I'll probably get some SLs to replace them soon.

time atac or alium is what I would have gone for originally, but there's nothing wrong with eggbeaters, only brakeless riders who don't know how to stop properly without waggling their feet around.

if you want to flashdance whilst stopping then get times

  • Do the shoes come with cleats or the pedlas with the cleats. I guess go find out huh! Anyone know where to look online??? x

  • time atacs it is then, will they fit to a sugino 75 crank ok

    Yes.

  • cleats come with pedals.

    CRC for time aliums

  • what is sl's RPM?

  • the cleats come with the pedals. you have to make sure the shoes you get are compatible with the pedals.

  • ATACs are great.

I think SLs are the stainless steel egg beaters.

  • aliums and atacs are different, no?

  • I am off work today, thanks to a crash with a resulting black eye and banged shoulder again only after getting it fixed with metal. Hey what are pedestrians supposed to do if they cause the accident by jaywalking. I must learn what to do casuse each time I crash, I get up check the bike and move in, seems odd in todays manner of things. Am I paranoid or are people really starting to hate us cyclists because we do not pay road tax as yet??

  • Atac's if you like riding aggressively. They'll keep hold of your feet for every bunny hop, stair drop and stupid thing you can imagine trying.

    SPDs for cheapness.

    Eggbeaters for aesthetics.

  • aliums and atacs are different, no?

    I don't know? Anyone else????

  • can you get free from atac's quickly in an accident ???

  • are all cleats for spds different or standard

  • aliums are the type of atacs, cheaper option than say atac carbons

  • Yes, you can adjust the release tension too.

    @Hussy

  • Aliums are the low-end Atacs. Same system, just cheaper.

Atacs go all the way up to £90 jobbies in carbon.

In essence, they're all the same. They just weigh different amounts, have slightly different aesthetics and the more expensive ones hold even stronger, though the Aliums are still good for the job.

Clipless pedals always have the same quick release mech... twist your heel to pop your toes out. And they're safer than clips (cages) as if you have a front-on accident and didn't free your feet the clipless (SPD, Time, etc) will let go of you just like a ski lets go of a skier in an accident. The clips/cages would continue to bind you to your bike as you crashed.

  • had not realised that concept Platini. Thanks. Yep these sound what I am gonna go for, low end obviously though... yeh I agree velocityboy that is what I am afraid off, wichh is a bummer cos I only got some new pedals, well gonna stick thjem on the merckx I am selling soon. Thanks for all your help, gonna check out the websites and buy a pair. xxxxxxxxxxxxto y'all

  • @vb there are atacs for like £208 the ti carbons

  • @vb there are atacs for like £208 the ti carbons

    Shocking!

    Why was I not told?

I'm having to make do with some Time Atac Carbon XS that are a whole 48g heavier. No wonder I'm slow in the evening, after a beer or two.
