Seriously. He has the worst pedalling action ever.

Wakenger of the year 2008: Brick Lane Bikes
Shit, we're only in April and there's no way anything else is going to happen that will top that. How unfriendly... would've been better to say no than to have the cheek to charge for air!

London fields charge 10p for a wire cap when you buy a brake cable.

Blimey, I'm well surprised at BLB for charging for air. :S

I have seen these for £10 for a bottle of 1500 (two thirds of a penny each).
You wonder why folk like Sheldon Brown became so popular - on his website they sell these 'cable end crimps' and if you just want a few they will post them to you free.

London fields and BLB = clueless short term petty thinking.
[EDIT: beaten to the Sheldon/Harris freebies by eeehhhh !!!]

i was in BLB the other day and saw the 50p for air thing, and y'know what? wasn't surprised at all.
-
• #20
how much air do you get for 50p, though?
will it cost £1 if I want to pump both tyres up to 100 PSI? £1.20 for 120PSI?
I think we should be told.

London fields have gone beyond the call of duty for me too but the cable end thing was a laugh. I walked out. (isn't it great to chat about such petty things on the interwebs?)

I usually got it for free when buying brake cable there. If now that´s the case, it is pretty mean....

ok fair enough slating BLB but now consider their point of view if:
- You have 50 people a day coming in asking to use the pump
- people nicking or breaking it......
It wouldn't be such a bad idea to charge 50p just to keep people from asking for it every 5 min.

Exactly. If you give your customers things like that for free, when they want a new bike they'll come back to you and spend £££.

You mean they actually have a sign?!
If I'm in a foul mood tomorrow afternoon, i.e. if the tickets I want for a gig sell out, I'm going to ride down there and take it out on them.

It is petty ! But it is not about the 50p for air or 10p for a smile - it is that it is indicative of their attitude towards their customers - any contrast of 'local friendly bike shop' v 'money grabbing corporate chain' is eroded by this kind of petty business thinking.
I have some pitch forks and access to fire - who is with me !
Right, you all get one, it can be a person place or thing but you get one per year.
