ah!
saw some in tesco the other day!
they were motion activated. only for schrader valves tho.. :-( -
• #3
Yeah! I think they are all motion activated - saves them having to build in a manual switch of any kind I suppose, but what do you expect for a quid ! :)
Also all these valve rim light thingys seem to be schrader - . . . so simply grab an old Presta valve cap (on the left here) . . . .
. . . then fill the schrader bit on the light with some good glue (epoxy if you have any lying around) and stuff the presta cap into the schrader hole bit on the light . . .
let it set . . .
You now have a presta version (here's the one's I did with two part epoxy)

Hate to res. a topic like this from the dead but i found it on a search so atleast im trying.
Are these things any good? Ive seen the really cheap ones on ebay and i quite like the idea of bright blue wheels when going fast. Increase side visibility a bit as any car drivers will know bikes are invisible quite often from the side!
Are they cheap shitty ebay rubbish or do they produce anything like the amount of light youd need?
in specific looking at these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wheel-LED-Bike-Light-Cycle-Lamp-Car-Wheel-Tyre-Valve_W0QQitemZ370265334187QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_Bike_Lights?hash=item563588a1ab cheapest of the cheap. It looks like they used a long exposure on the photo though.

Search for 'Spokelits' on ebay.com not co.uk, they're really bright and make a cool light disc when your wheels are spinning, fairly cheap too, £3 each I think

If they're shit hopefuly someone will learn from my mistake, if they're good ill be a very happy chappy.

very good for your money.
Very bright, only concern is they do stop flashing once you are stopped or going very slowly. Also rocking backwards and forwards slightly as if you were track standing doesnt appear to make them light up.
For the price you cant go wrong. I also dont imagine it matters which brand you choose.

They are battery powered. On or flashing. Like so

my little valve light arrived today. they seem good, and dirt cheap... so i ordered 4 more!

i think i should get some, not only for the safety aspect but because they look soo COOOL. Anyone riding multiple lights is sure to be a tourist attraction around london at night.

i think it was velocio who bought some, tried to screw them on to his presta valves realised they were too big and gave them away
he should have seen the tynan upgrade

they work a treat in pitch black (as in above photo) but in city light i can't imagine them being very effective.
-

used them tonight for the first time. got stared at loads, they definitely attract more attention than normal lights.
-
• #17
I am reading that they are alight for ten seconds after the wheels stop turning. If they are still shining as I lock up my bike outside tesco's it's guaranteed they'll be nicked. A worst case scenario is that chavs will damage the valve as they wrestle the lights off and I'll have to roll the bike home.
As there are different brands out there, could you guys post how long your lights continue to shine after you've stopped?

the ones i got instantly stop.

I find mine to be extremely bright for a £1 LED light. I think a light which is rotating and moving very quickly will catch a lot of attention, its like pedal reflectors...sure they look fucking ridiculous but you cant miss them whilst driving behind a cyclist at night. They arent any brighter (when caught in headlights) than these.
