  • Here's a little weekend quiz thing.. Who can guess what this is?

It's not strictly 'fixed', but could be construed as 'fixed culture related'.
Just for fun, no prizes (at least, I don't have any)..

  • it's a double clamp thingie, to hold something?? maybe on the top tube or the chain stays?

  • maybe to clamp a lock or light to a frame?

  • it would be too loose for a light, the second/larger part would rattle about a bit?

  • For scale, the bolt-up clamp isn't big enough to fit around a top-tube with the bolt installed (which looks original). It would fit to a fork blade or stay.

  • ah, maybe to hold the second wheel set, where you have a screw in bolt on forks or stays, and this little widget holds the tyre part of the wheel???

  • spare tyre holder
    pump holder
    moustache wax holder

can't think of anything else right now..

  • is it clamped on to the chain stay and is its purpose to hold your chain when you take the back wheel off?

  • ay, could be a primitive chain tensioner

  • Agree with murtle (for once). To hold a secondary wheel, hence the bit of felt in there to protect the rim.

  • It's definitely a clamp for something, though not a wheel...

(although, I'm starting to question whether it is what I was told it is.. think so though, seems well suited.)

  • Number holder for rear stays?

  • ah, maybe to hold the second wheel set, where you have a screw in bolt on forks or stays, and this little widget holds the tyre part of the wheel???

That is what I was think but from the photos I have seen people seem to carry the racing wheel on the bars and if the clamp won't fit round a top tube it will not fit around the bars.

  • can the clamp bit with felt move around freely from the bolt bit,
or is that a spring, in which case it wont

  • Clamp for beer bottle

  • oh i just thought it could be a bottle cage/holder

but i dont think it would fit round the down tube, if it doesnt fit round a top tube

    edit: im slow, sorry adoubletap

  • can the clamp bit with felt move around freely from the bolt bit,
or is that a spring, in which case it wont

It's a spring, and a fairly strong one at that.

  • hmm im strangely motivated to work this out

is it for hanging the bike up, bolt onto the bike clamp it somewhere
or the other way round, bolt to somewhere in garage etc, clamp bike to it

  • Shotgun holder as a follow up to Bruce Reynolds 3.8 Mk II When robbing Barclays at Wimbledon, in case there was a rumble.

  • for holding a polo mallet

  • is it some vintage sex toy?

  • for holding a polo mallet

**DING DING! We have a winner. **Well done.

Its a polo mallet/hockey stick carrier, I think it's designed to attach to a fork blade.

  • woah.. some of the answers were pretty stupid...
im surprised some people didnt think it was a 1960s stem, after someone suggested it may be a chain tensioner…

  • I'm puzzeled by where i would put it on my forks so that a polo mallet would be held there and not hit the ground, or my face.

not as stupid as a person who can't tell serious from a bit of fun
