Wanted: Bullhorns (or similar) to flip

  • Due to ongoing medical (back) issues I need to change my riding position and have some handlebars roughly shaped like those on dutch bikes - I'm thinking bullhorns rotated 180 degrees back to face riding position will work. So if anybody has an old pair kicking about please let me know. Other suggestions welcome! Cheers

  • I don't know about your set up, but I just tried this on my bike (I fucked my arm up on the weekend and can't put any weight on it). I thought your idea was brilliant and this would at least let me get around without too much pain until healing does its thang. For it to work (sit straight, all weight on the seat, what I suspect you're after) I would have had to lower me seat a lot. The result would have been pretty funny I imagine. A la that cop at the Tibet protest (olympic run).

Not sure if this is a helpful post, but it's worth considering.

  • yep, low seat, high hands is what I'm after, and a nice big comfy Brooks!

  • what about moustache bars? Maybe they would suit you

  • always been tempted by the 'tache, but they might be a tad wide. I need to see them in the flesh really.

  • I just went for a spin on my bike set up like that. Felt super silly (although a couple of gaffers setting up some lights complimented the bike!), but was able to ride with one hand perfectly fine. My knees were up to the bars though. Good enough for getting me to the bank, not good enough for Southend.

  • I did almost exactly this to a claud butler tourer for my wife. In the end I went to decathlon, at canada water, they had a choice of a fairly standard alloy riser and a steel swept back handlebar (similar to the top two here). I got the swept back bar, i think it was £6.99. put some dirty harry levers on it and new grips and she's very happy...

just the ticket. This one especially is the kind of this i have in mind. Cheers

  • they're v similar to the decathlon pair, but I think the ones I got have a slightly more jaunty angle to the end 5 inch section, making them wider at the end. I wanted to get the nitto pair for her, but they were a bit expensive for her needs......

  • what about those massive cruiser bars? would be a fun look

  • I made it to south london (beers) and back with this. Probably shouldn't have, but I did!
