EBB's change the fit of the bike. If you've got the fit right and have to tension the chain, you've just changed the feel of the bike.

Good point. Definitely off the Mather bike then?

Yeah. I deliberated a lot and then I got shown these:
Sliding drops... benefits of vertical (perfect re-alignment, no slip) with the virtues of horizontal (chain tensioning).
No need for the EBB. Which is good because whilst it's a great solution I was pretty certain it wasn't the most simple solution.

That thing's crazy. It's probably got more higher brain function than hippy

It's simple... the whole drop slides.
I'm giving away far too much about what this bike is going to be... only another 6 months.

I think I get it... Almost.

A rohloff + disc brake combo:
But you can also get plain vertical drops on both sides and gear hangers. And as the drops are bolt-on and slide, you can change the drops as you see fit according to what wheel you're putting on and the configuration you want.

so are you dumping the BJ then VB?
what about the Sorretta?

Not necessarily - I've read quite a few threads on mtbr where people have had some problems with them slipping eg http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=396309&highlight=paragon+slipping
I'd still get them if I was in your shoes VB as I think they have the least disadvantages of all the solutions, although the on one slot dropouts are clever (for dic use, not rohloff)

May sell the BJ, never the Serotta.

the bolt that points into the frame is so important. The first version that kona released came without making the dropout slip forward. I spent so much time thanking my lucky stars that nought serious happened each and every time my chain was thrown.

My Voodoo MTB has sliding dropouts for chain tensioning and IMHO they are bloomin great. very happy with them, I did initially get some slip without the stop screws, seems fine now everything is tight though.

EBB's are piss easy to use though.
