Do you want 'em? Are they doing your eyes in? Make it hard to pretend you may be doing something vaguely work related?

Nah, they're useful. You can read a thread and pay little attention to the left hand column but subliminally see the avatars and know who posted what.

Of course, that works when there aren't avatars distracting you. Then you can't really read the thread.
