No direct experience but from what I've read they're nice, light and strong.

but no good for the road.sorry no bumps, pot holes, ditches etc on the track and after looking and studying the hubs i reckon they wont last long.

OK, but they are available flip-flop which suggests that they aren't track specific. Also, I've not (to my knowledge) seen a hub fail at the flange.
Anyone heard any horror stories re: these wheels?

Track riding puts a lot of stress on wheels, especially laterally, which requires strength. A similar hub design was being used for road and mtb wheels at some point (Cane Creek Volos Team Issue) with the fancy hub flange on the drive side to transfer torque better and make up for the dish, but I don't think they're made any more:
Also Cane Creek says that the newest design of their wheels with the carbon wrapped rims can be used for road training http://www.canecreek.com/track-v-33-wheels.html and they use the same hubs as the older design, which I assume you're looking at since these ones are $900.
You can find a bunch of first hand reports about the older track wheels on http://www.bikeforums.net if you search for volos. Here's an example thread http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=327205&highlight=volos
One thing to bear in mind is that the old cane creek wheels are built up to velocity aeroheads, so you're really paying for the hub which does look great and seems to perform well. As an aside, and being totally shameless, I'm about to sell an almost finished wheelset made of DA high flange hubs (single sided rear) laced with 28 spokes to silver non machined aeroheads.

I had a wheel fail on the flange... Was a MTB wheel with a Hope Hub.
Bought it off ebay and think it was badly laced - coming from Old Street towards Holborn near Faringdon Rd junction and i had to pass stationery cars, sudden loud
bang and the front wheel locks in my V Brakes, going slow so didn't come off. Pretty sure it was down to the build? But as i bought it off the Bay, couldn't return it?
And it was about 6 months after purchase! -

Hub flanges can and do fail. Much more likely to happen if you run radially spoked wheels.

Does anyone have any experience of Cane Creek Volos V wheels? I know that they cost more than a good, handbuilt midrange wheelset (i.e. Miche/Mavic/etc) but they look (in my opinion) awesome. Mainly because of the lotus flower-esque flanges.
Also, does anyone (Hassan?) know what the street price on these bad boys is in the UK? They are something like $585(US) RRP, but that means next to nothing once you factor in the distributor's margin, etc.
