  • Hey all, it's been a while! I've seen these Velocity Fusion rims, they seem like a good compromise between strength and weight. Has anyone any experience of them, and any idea where to find them in the UK/Europe?

    Cheers! :)

  • is the god compromise like the god delusion, but a bit more agnostic?

  • exactly!

  • why not just get aeroheads, even lighter but will probably be just as strong

  • Or get some proper rims, like Mavic Open Sport...

  • wot hutch said.
i would rather put my faith in mavic or dt than try and track down a possibly inferior and more expensive product from some aussie upstart company.

  • that's in interesting point, although Velocity have been around for years. Maybe longer than DT have been making rims I think

Having said that, these look nice

  • DT swiss are very good rims,
so are some Mavics, but Open sport ain't great.

In my experience of using both of them, I'd say Open Pro are worth the extra bunce

  • Unlike Anti-Aussie Smiffy I actually have experience with Velocity Fusion rims. I raced on them for at least 2 years (hand-built 32h on American Classic hubs and another set built on Ultegra 32h hubs).
They were ridden hard in multiple weekly crits and I was heavier then, crashed a few times and came good with a simple true. At least one crash I remember well being a crit in my home suburb and it made the paper! :)
I continued racing on the day but then had a month off the bike with internal damage. The wheels were re-trued by Mick and rolled true once again. In Oz Velocity is a slightly cheaper and home-grown option compared to Mavic.
Both companies make great rims. Aerohead are too light (for me).

  • redeye that's in interesting point, although Velocity have been around for years. Maybe longer than DT have been making rims I think

Yes, Velocity have been around longer than DT Swiss.

  • MCC have been around longer than MCG, doesn't mean they are better

  • I know, I was simply confirming redeye's comment which was based on MrsSmith's "upstart" comment.
Maybe he's just jealous you lot haven't worked out how to make aluminium circles yet?

  • why should we?

the frogs make perfectly good ones.

and they don't forget to put the eyelets in

  • You don't need eyelets. The rims are built so they are not necessary. Some people harp on about them being required but it's bollocks.
I don't mind mocking the deep victims but there's nothing wrong with Velocity rims. Most of my wheels now use Mavic - but that's because they're just easier to get hold of here.

  • gotcha!

you been away too long, boy!

  • i'm not anti aussie i just had a small bet as to how many minutes it would take you to comment, unfortunately i lost so reply a bit quicker next time please.

i still think mavic have a lot of r&d and metal technology behind their rims and wheels that is well proven in road and mtb, velocity rims seem expensive over here, obviously the situation is reversed 'down there'.

wouldn't mind some aero or aerohead rims for my mercian as they look a bit retro and are available in ti-grey like the open pro's and aren't silly heavy like the V's.

  • I was having dinner so the computer was off, sorry, I will arc up faster next time.
I'm not saying Mavic are bad, just that Velocity aren't. I would ride either.

  • I ride one of each on my bike - a cxp33 on the front and a deep V on the back. both seem to be pretty rock solid - have survived multiple crashes without needing truing.

  • velocity fusions laced to phils. i like them.

  • do you have winter, spring and summer tt pads?

  • chris crash do you have winter, spring and summer tt pads?

just fall. cause i do that alot.

  • good come back, i like you bette then turpe all ready...

west coast sucks btw, mid west no coast is where it at ;)

  • ;) means its all love

  • hahaha. turpe.

sorry - can't see a bike here, it seems to have some sorta cloaking device. i see a bright blue circle, some gold, but no bicycle.
