  • so a while back a guy in a bmw didnt indicate and slammed straight into me, i was ok but as soon as i was clear of his bonnet he drove straight off. however, as he hit me his front number plate clipped my pedal and fell off. i was fine after the crash and had a graze on my leg, the front wheel of my bike had a couple of loose/snapped spokes but everything else was fine. so i went straight to a police station and filled out their form saying that i had his number plate, a month later they sent me a letter saying they were looking into it, and today they sent me a letter saying that they cant be asked to continue the case, BUT on the same letter is the guys full details... so what do i do?

  • Paint stripper, syringe, squirt liberally...

  • Write to your local MP and Ken Livingstone.
Then to the police complaints authority.
Then engage one of those shitty claims direct companies to harass him.
Then use your contacts at the DVLA to find out his address (do you have it?) and stick some bananas up his exhaust and piss on all his doorhandles.
Then take a dump outside his door and deflate all his tyres and post a envelope full of vomit through his letterbox.
Sorry I got caught up in the moment..

  • provenrad Write to your local MP and Ken Livingstone.
Then to the police complaints authority..

i know i should know but i dont, so what should i be saying to these people? should i be talking about the driver or the police not doing anything?

and yes i do have mr labiche's details.

  • No no no.
Revenge is for losers. You need justice
Write to the Police station, asking for a written explanation as to why they aren't prepared to pursue the acse. Send this letter to your MP. Send it to the Metro, post it here and on any other website you can find.

If you harass the wanker yourself, it's you v. him and the system (the police force) is off the hook. If you take it up a level, you are forcing the system to deal with the issue not just in your case, but for every cyclist who's been fucked over by a wanker in a Beamer.

Reg wasn't something like W500DAV was it? Beamer with that plate cut me and a fixed rider up badly on Russell Square yesterday morning.

  • i see what your saying mr fakenger, but the police say that because there is no "independent evidence and in conjunction with the code f crown prosecutors, police have decided to take no further action in this matter". so i dont know why they would change their mind.

the registration is a little different but i dont think you can trust anyone in a beamer.

  • this is an interesting situation, I am surprised you have got his details...well, you could write the letters complaining about how the police are not following up the case etc or you could go down the revenge route and take it out on his car...little is likely to come of the letter writing, but then revenge could get you into trouble...and what fakenger said about revenge is worth noting

I know what I would be sorely tempted to do, but I would prolly pussy out...

  • thing is he doesnt even live that far away from me... but i think i might phone up the standard and see if they want to report it or anything, only problem would be a lack of injuries or brocken bike pieces, however he did drive straight off, and it would make a good picture to have me with his number plate.

  • Hello Danger!

Bastard police are useless, Gelatin Agent had her bike stolen, found it, found out that it was sold from a shop on Brick Lane, and offered to go around with the girl who'd bought it and the police to confront the shop about selling stolen bikes. The police delayed 4 times and eventually the girl with the stolen bike disappeared and changed her mobile number so that she couldn't be contacted any more!

You should definitely take it up a level, short of handing them criminals on a platter there really isn't much more you could do to make their job easier.

Everyone complains about bike crime, road deaths and stolen bikes, and it's the one thing the police could easily sort out. They know where stolen bikes are being sold, they know where they are being stolen from and in your case they have actual evidence of dangerous driving (I can't believe you have his number plate!) infact forget dangerous driving, it's hit and run.

they take the piss and you should definitely kick up a stink.

  • Any witnesses?
Get the letter anyway; kick up a fuss. The Police are public servants, as are MP's, Ken Livingston, DVLA. Make them work for you!

  • i'll brake his legs for a 100 bucks.just kidding...

surely thats 'hit n run' which in my book is a serious crime maybe not to the police.go donw the letter writing route if nothing comes to it then you enter the world of pain and get medevil on his ass.

    good luck bro.

is it me or is there more n more cases of poor driving vs cycling over the last couple of months.seasonal changes perhaps?

  • hit and run should be followed up! police have no right to ignore this, complain complain complain!

  • hello bristly, i think the plan is stop talking about it on here and pop off some at some point on the monopoly ride... there werent any witnesses and the only person who was near by turned around after she heard the incident so i told her not to bother, plus it was on the side of a park so no cameras. at the moment im trying to find out the standards phone number so i can ask them if they want a story, then im going to ask my dad what he thinks i should do, then after all that im going to reasses the balance, because i dont even think this guy would get a criminal file even if it did go to court.

  • PIty that he tacoed your front wheel and that you were walking with a limp for a week. All those bus passes when you couldn't ride!

After all, with his address and licence plate you could sue in the Small Claims Court. Or he could settle out of court. After all, did he stop to check that you were okay?

Or have I misread the first post?

  • h2o, he did fuck up the front wheel.

  • Witnesses or not, the police have an obligation to question a named suspect if a crime is reported. Lazy fuckers need to be reminded of that. Is this a London station danger joel?

This kind of stuff gets me really wound up (on a slightly drunken lazy friday afternoon at work)

  • danger joel h2o, he did fuck up the front wheel.

You're getting into the spirit of it now...

What I mean is, don't downplay the damage like you did in your first post, and write the guy a letter asking him to cover the costs. Point out that you could take it to court and then he can explain to a magistrate why it is you happen to have his licence plate and a police letter confirming your story.

Lot more lucrative for you and a lot less likely to get you arrested than petty vandalism.

  • well, im in no rush to do anything. i do have his details and number plate after all. and thanks for the support i was a bit shaken up when the guy just drove straight off after him looking me straight in the face as he hit me.

what your saying isnt untrue, i am getting a new wheelset, and forks, but the forks part is my own fault.

  • get a maniquin and a junk bike tie them together, and place under his car, tie to car. when he drives off they will be dragged out the back. subtle funny message

  • yeah that would prob spook him nicely...

  • i'd get on with the rest of your life and chalk it down as experience.

  • danger joel so a while back a guy in a bmw didnt indicate and slammed straight into me, i was ok but as soon as i was clear of his bonnet he drove straight off.

No way you should just leave it. I mean, this is a serious fucking crime. And this guy seems like a serious c*nt. What if you had been seriously injured and needed an ambulance. This guy had no way of knowing if you were ok. He was more worried about saving his fucking no claim bonus than a persons life/well being.

Remind me where and when this was again Joel? It's all starting to come back to me. I did see this fucker hit you and then drive off. How many witneses do you need?

  • The police say there is 'no independent evidence'? What about the fact that he hit you so hard his number plate came off and you now have it in your possession? How else can you come to have his number plate? If you've got any contacts in the legal profession it is worth finding out if you have a civil claim. I don't know what you can expect in damages, but that's probably not what it's all about.

  • While youre waiting/deciding what to do next why not accidentally post his details here in case you lose that letter?
