  • From the BBC, a step in the right direction anyway.

    Truck lens for spotting cyclists

Drivers can spot cyclists who come up on their left
Stick-on lenses which allow truck drivers to spot cyclists in their "blind spot" have been handed out.
Transport for London (TfL) has handed out 10,000 stickers, called Fresnel Lens, to HGV drivers.

The sticker, which needs to be put on the passenger side window of the truck cab, allows drivers to see cyclists coming up on their left.

TfL said every year collisions between cyclists and trucks accounted for half of all cycle fatalities.

  • This is a gesture and avoids the issue. TFL should force the haulage operators to fit extra mirrors, or ban them during the day from central London, and stop pandering to their PR. The first hot day after this has been fitted when your average driver will roll down his window and this thing will be gone forever.

  • ban them

  • great idea, should be given free to haulage/lorry companies.

    i like it.

  • yeah, it's a fantastic idea. i'd rather see HGVs totally banned during the day from central london, but I don't think it'll ever happen.

  • Combination of those lenses and taking some personal responsibility to stay the fuck out of truck blind spots *instead of edging up the side of an artic with your kid in a childseat you dirty nodder *will do some good. And i'm back in the room.

  • yeah, definitely.

tfl needs to educate cyclists as well as other road users, just not in a overly paternal or patronising way.

  • a couple of adverts of people getting crushed under lorries ought to be educational
