Profile Airwings are similar, no?

Those Nitto bars flex an awful lot when you're out of the saddle and pulling on them hard. Maybe try before you buy, if possible.
That's the only negative point, though. They're comfy the rest of the time and they look nice - especially with white bar tape. :-)

yes, they are similar...not keen on the wide central part (where they sit in the stem, is there a name for that bit?! too tired)....and also the minimum width as far as I can find out is 40cm. Can't remember exactly why I wasn't keen on the Profile, just a whim I guess...
...thanks though!

ah, really? did not know this. But I'm really not very strong!...reckon I would still get flex in them?

ah, really?
Are you calling me a liar?! :-P
They definitely flex in direct response to the amount of effort you're making. I notice it when I'm going uphill and pulling away from traffic lights. That's all there is to tell, really. It's very noticeable, but it's not bad enough to make me want another pair of bars. Have a think about it. Would bendiness freak you out? There are no hills in London anyway, and I hear that the locals NEVER stop at traffic lights. You'll be fine! :-)
-
• #7
it was surprise! honestly! :)
yep, the hills in London um, aren't really. Went to Richmond park last week expecting some mountains from all I'd heard....just a few hills!
but not many places have hills like Scotland. I can imagine getting flex on those Glasgow hills. Still sounds like you rate the bars which is good news to me.
-
• #8
I do rate the bars, yeah. Go ahead and order them from Hub Jub. Will deserves your cash and you can treat the four-day wait as an exercise in self-control. Think of the excitement of waiting for the postman each day! :-)

oooh, postmen!post! you're so right....

Ah, i've got some of them (off gumtree luckily), and had 'em on with no tape for about 6 weeks. Didn't flex that much, but I did chop a couple of inches off the ends, so I might not be putting pressure on the ends of the bars. I taped them up a fortnight ago and completely forgot about leaving space for the brake lever (perhaps as a premonition to Alice Fisher, of The Observer), so I've only been using it to pootle about to the shops since.
Not very good photo of it here
(and yes, I know, the cable / cupboard combo is ugly, but just look at the fireplace, where i pose, thumb in waistcoat, pipe in mouth deriding the Observer reading classes )
I don’t want bar-end brakes and my current levers (a tektro and a specialized) don’t fit the clamp, as it’s a 26mm diameter… so I need some top mount ones… any recommendations?
Was thinking about getting some of these: but the 31mm diameter is going to be massive and need an enormous shim… and don't want to spend on two, unless Stelle, you want to share a pair? -
• #11
are they the cross levers? I've actually got a pair from previous false brake buying attempts, you're welcome to one of them...
the bars you have look kind of like the ones condor tried to sell me saying it was what I was after, but there's no lip/curve up at the end - or are yours cut down?
-
• #12
Yup, they're the RB201 ones, but i didn't fancy hanging *that *far over the front wheel and had a band saw to hand in a friends' motorbike place, so I just started chopping bits off the end until they were comfy. And yes, those brakes are cross levers... Can I take one off you? You're in ED aren't you?

Stelle, I've got a set of these, brand new, which I won't be using. They're the 38cm ones, I think. Definitely no wider.
I really like them, but not on my current bike, and I won't be building a pursuit bike anytime soon...

This sort of thing puts the fear into me big time, especially since my mate's old drops snapped and he ended up with half the flesh on his knee painted in a trail up the road.
I heard someone say you're supposed to replace Alu bars every couple of years to avoid failures - is this bollocks? Mine are proper old and a bit bent and I'm starting to get the shakes...
-
• #24
replace old ones, or after a big crash, espicly if bent, or dinged. other then that they should last longer then a yer, dependiong on how hard your flexing them

Holy shit! I wasn't a flexi-phobe before, but I am now. That photo will pop into my head every time I stand up.
I think I'll forget about pedalling in circles and concentrate on clenching the saddle with my buttocks.
I'm looking for some Nitto urban pursuit bars RB-021 size 38cms....like these (hope this image works):
....yes, they have them at Hub Jub but they're closed until the 14th March and I am one IMPATIENT girl. The internet was not made for me. Wondered if anyone knew of a London stockist/has a pair they'd like to sell? I've hurt my wrist and an alternative riding position would be good just now.
The options I've tried have been:
Cavendish - out of stock. Condor - no.
Brick Lane Bikes have them but for £38 rather than HubJub's £23 (I offered them £30 but no go, and I'm not impatient or rich enough to pay £38)
Any other shops worth trying?
I'd go for another brand if they were the same/similar shape & not too wide... I was told of some made/discontinued a few years ago, but foolishly forgot the name as soon as I was told it.
any help or info much appreciated. Failing all else, I will just wait... (grits teeth)
