  • I don't need one but my company will pay me $20,000 a year towards the running of a car

So I could lease one of these Italian beauties

and all told it'll cost me about $100 per week

The thing is I don't need it and even if I go for the diesal it ain''t kind to the environment

having said that it'll be great for my ego

so what do you reckon 'peeps'

    ego or environment

  • How often would you use it? Is it necessary for work?

  • although that car is beautiful (im sure it smells nice) i care for the environment and think if you dont need it dont have it

  • the-smiling-buddha I don't need one

Surely you answered your own question?

  • Can you not get the cash in some way?

  • Can you use the cash for a classic Italian machine?

  • yeah rent the car out to some twat, reap cash...

btw a car that fits into the congestion co2 emission limit would be a good start, they'll be free after October. Wanna buy my A2 TDi? :)

  • ^^^
What I was about to say... About the classic Italina machine...

  • the reason they are coughing up is that they moved os 60km outside of Paris

in the summer I'd take the train ride my dahon bike to work

in the winter I would drive rather than taking train/taxi

If I got it I would definately use it

but somehow it feels spiritually a bit wrong like I want it for all the wrong reasons

    like its Italian

    its beautiful

I can get to wear string back gloves and really cool sunglasses

  • I don't think you should ever take something just for the hell of it even if it's free.
    Cars are hassle.
Why would you pay $100 a week for something you don't need?

  • I have a car and use it only at weekends(if at all). Use it more in the summer as it's a softop but fuck me do cars drain you financially or what. Repairs, MOT's, insurance, petrol(now 107ppg!), tickets(living in Lambeth is a crime if you have a car!)

  • They are beautiful and although i adore italian cars (my last car below) i sold mine as never use it!

When i was occasionally using a car I had a smart car which was so much fun and less harmful with its ickle 500cc engine :)

I might be moving to Paris for 3months from May, you use your bike over there?

  • Alfa Romeos aren't very reliable tho'... You'll end up taking the train anyway... ;)

  • How much does it cost for a train ticket to work?
How long would the train take?
How long would your complete ride train journey take compared to driving?
What are the trains like in Paris regarding crowding efficiency punctuality e.t.c?
How far from the station at each end will you be?
Would they cover your rail fare? Would you use the car for any other trips like going on holiday?
If you are leasing the car does that mean that company you lease from deals with the mechanical problems?

Tommy you can be my accountant...:) the 'lease' includes everything, I will pay for gas, parking & tolls
I did a Net Present Value calculation regarding all the costs and it comes out as an extra $100 per week.
Having a car for work will more convenient on some days and less convenient on others.
The big PLUS would be that I would have a little Italian number to swan about in when I am not working
This though panders to my 'ego' and probably not much more
Afterall I can get to the South of france by TGV in the quarter the time it takes by car

  • The big PLUS would be that I would have a little Italian number to swan about in when I am not working

that, for me, would be worth gold. A weekend out driving and finding a nice little b&b somewhere by the sea is definitely one of my top 3 things to do on the weekend

  • what about hiring a nice car , when you need/want to....would the allowance cover all of that?

  • that what i do now, I hire cars when I need them,

and they all look and go like tractors

this one is black, sexy and Italian and I want to drive it here

  • get the car, fuck the earth queers.

I've got a pimped out VW that I use about once in a blue moon due to being here in London, but on weekends away (like this weekend when I have to go to the Phoenix Club in Bolton) I actually can't wait to get in my car and hit the road.

Driving on an open road is one of the best feelings ever.

that sir is the best laugh I have had all day .....I keep telling myself 'no'.... but deep down I am sucker for beauty, and that Alfa is a beautiful, beautiful car

No sir I am not, unless you're asking me out??

  • Just sold my car. It sat idling for two years not being used. Gf has a car though - I get to drive it on the weekends - wish it was a sexy black Alfa! My car got sold cause I preferred to have the money in the bank, not because of the environment - it was old and did very little mileage. Go everywhere on the bike now, when the Gf isn't coming that is ;)

  • get it, then realise that driving cars isn't like the adverts or the Bond films, and your stringback gloves and sunnies pale into insignificance when you've been sat in traffic jams for an hour just to crawl 2 miles and you wish you were on your bike with the wind blowing round your bollocks, eyeing up all the young ladies wandering along the pavement.

there are very few places in the world where driving is pleasurable these days, and they'll all be gridlock by 2010 anyway.

cars are so bent it's unbelievable
