I'm after a press fitted BB for my old Viscount, they are are bastard to get out i know that much!

the mid bb is great, decent bearing size so strong as fuck ,and you have a bigger axle diameter so it's stiffer. same idea as outboard bbs, but integrated to the frame, only thing to worry about is the quality of the machining of the bb shell, and solid does all of fbm's headtubes and bb shells, and they are first class. no problems.

my old pace had a bullseye 2 piece crank, and press fit bearings in the b/b, had no problems with it, only replaced the bearings once in 13 years.

My pashley had a press fit BB and the Spinner exercise bike I am sorting for someone also has, easy to whack out the cups and press back in I guess, thing is, DMR always do a conversion to run a normal treaded BB so you have the option.
BMX seem to switching to the spanish BB standard, not sure what the difference is, just see it pop up on MTB's that are following BMX technology.

What is the difference between a Euro American Spanish and mid bottom bracket?Answer What is the difference between a
American bottom bracket is the largest bearing cups found. This is usually on low end bikes and have been discontinued by various companies. You need a BB tool to get the bearings out unlike other BB types.
Euro bottom bracket is the smallest and therefore the lightest style of bottom bracket. You need a BB tool in order to remove the bearings. Euro BB have to be maintained and are not very reliable.
Mid bottom bracket is a press-fit bottom bracket i.e. you can pull the bearings out with your hands if needed. they use medium sized bearings and are on high-end bikes. It is called press fit becuase a frame with a mid bottom bracket has a socket for the bearings to sit which can simply be pressed into place by hand.
Spanish bottom bracket was invented by a company called Fly bikes. It uses the Mid bottom bracket design but reduces the size of the bearings thus reducing weight. Uses press-fit design which enables easy assembley. A favorite for professional BMXers.
[\QUOTE]I think BMX is more on mid b.b as they compromise the weight / strength thing quite well and is a larger standard.
I can't believe mbt are only just moving away from euro b.b Jackass123456789 I would have thought they would be on that years ago. BMX where always American b.b then a few years ago when weight started to become an issue different shell came on to the market including some people running euro shells but it seems a little silly to run aero shell b.b on a bmx unless you are weight obsessed.

The only issue with this is that you'd probably have to use a set of Profile (or similar) BMX cranks. Which in my experience is a shite idea for riding fixed.
I had an old set of Profiles that i slung on my first conversion, and due to their only being one bolt holding the chainring to the arm (through a soft aluminium sprocket) it worked loose every other day. They simply are not designed to be used cranking in both directions (from breaking forces etc.)
Although if riding round at 5 mph doing drops off 3 sets is your bag, then i guess a stronger Mid-BB / bmx crankset is probably more suited. Just remember your 5.5mm allen key.
Taken from fbmfixed.com, FBM are essentially a bmx frame manufacturer who've diversified into the whole fixed gear thing. Press fit brackets are pretty much the norm in bmx these days, what are the thoughts on this?
I like it personally
