  • oh dear i broke'd it !!!!!
truely a sad moment for me, luckly 1 min walk form flat
hope someone can help/suggest something and ur not all at artycat lol

its a bike i bought on tuesday from blb so it should not have happened right its only gone from london bridge to strand twice :S
and i cant be that strong

heres some pictures anyway (sorry i only own a camera phone)

any thoughts on what blb will do, they should sought it right or at least for very cheap as a guy went over checking it after i bought before i rode off ?

its a much nicer red than that in the flesh
took some of the paint off the chain stay, bit annoying like ...

    anyways yea ....

  • they will probly take an agel grinder to it....

really if you just got it this should no have happened, looks like the chrinring bolt was lose, take it back and demand satisfaction.

  • Sadly, after ASM's recent experience, I wouldn't hold out much hope in Brick Lane Bikes doing the decent thing and replacing it, but it's worth a try.

If they refuse, I'd tell them to fuck themselves, go to London Fields Cycles (on Mare Street) and buy a new chainring.

Hang on a tic, looking at that crank, I see you're missing a chainring bolt at the crucial point. Was this always missing? Even if not, given that - as you say - someone checked it over before you rode off, you should be able to argue that not checking for loose/missing chainring bolts is an epic screw-up on their part. I'd be sure to point that out to them, as it strengthens your case somewhat.

    Good luck.

  • c chrash: holy shit an angle grinder .... 0.o lol

but yea ill be demanding that satisfaction

"i cant get no sat-is-fac-tion ..." stand there with that on ?

  • turpe Sadly, after ASM's recent experience, I wouldn't hold out much hope in Brick Lane Bikes doing the decent thing and replacing it, but it's worth a try.

this isnt good to here, i now it expensive there but they should do the decent thing

whats the name of thread ASM to read bout it ??

    turpe Was this always missing?

defently not had a good look over the bike and a good run round back streets to make sure everything was there and fitting etc

    but ta for luck :S

  • I am glad you are safe, lose nuts and bolts can be a bit of an issue on newly built bikes, I have done it myself, forgotten to tighten up something up properly

  • loose bolt+falls out= missing bolt=pressure on chainring at that point where it's not secured allowing it to bend too far out of it's intended plane=bent chainring .

this is 100% the fault of the person who fitted that chainring to that crank spider.

I think we've heard enough about BLB today

  • my two sense: for whatever its worth, jan (pronounced: yawn) - who is in mexico getting a tan - will be back like next week or something, and in my experience he has always been most straight fore ward for getting things done and taken care of, so wait till he's back then go to him...

  • just read asm's post, not a good effort by them really ?

but what you say RPM is short, simple, consice and u cant argue against that ...

so hopefully i can make my case and get them to sought it, if they're feeling genourous im gonna get to fucking touch up the close to perfect (just dirty) paint job >.<

  • i genuinely begging to worry what happened to wapping warior now, with his BLB bike who knows what a cropper he might have come!

  • Kelvin i genuinely begging to worry what happened to wapping warior now, with his BLB bike who knows what a cropper he might have come!

    hmmm...

he might be laying at the bottom of the Wapping Basin being slowly devoured by eels and pike, still attached to his faulty toe clips..

  • just thought

any better way of getting to blb (early morning) with an irridable bike ?

guessing i cant really use the tube

and im a london bridge so a bit of a trek on foot

  • my chainring ended up in a similar state one sunday am - luckily not far from polo. shit load of gratitude out to db and a number of others who helped me out - and no thanks to BLB who sold me a 48t silver ring in replacement for a 44t one, although credit that they did give me my money back when i returned it 10 minutes later. must say that every other experience ive had with them, tho, has been a rip off one...

  • pilky just thought

any better way of getting to blb (early morning) with an irridable bike ?

and im a london bridge so a bit of a trek on foot

hop on the other bike and ghost ride it

  • Again I'd say you have a legitmate basis for pursuing this either through the small calims court or trading standards. BLB, like any other retailer, have an absolute duty to ensure that anything they sell is of mechantable quality, a chainset/chainring that does this after a couple of days clearly fails this test. If enough of us (legitimately) complain to trading standards about our bad experinces of BLB, it will put them on their radar, this wouldn't be good for BLB.

  • can we burn it down?

we didnt get to burn down the last place on brick lane and i got all that petrol i bet you dont even know what petrol costs these days cyclist c*nts

  • What on earth is up with BLB that they grind of a crank, and then sell this bike with what was probably a loose chainring bolt?

  • just read " irridable " haha im a muppet

i got rid the other bike chris to afford this so not an option

if there being fussy ill drop a line about the small claims court then or TS
and id now happily complain with other people if u did it i think

vb on later insection there now all loose bar one, coule be a result of that one giving up but .. not gd

  • did you get it in then? im sure some one has a ring that will fit that you can borrow for a short ride, or will gohst ride it in for you i would, but got an ocen in the way

  • no i woke up and it was pissing it down, lovely now but i fell back to sleep >.< and have to leave 8 mins ago dam it

it would be lovely for someone to do that, but almost seems a lot of effort on their part for a really short ride,
them getting to me, chainging it (all out door - not fun if raining), getting there, then maybe possibly waiting for blb to tell me im gonna be outta pocket where upon ill get pissed off

thnks though, u need to bouys on the side of ur bike to make it float over here :D

  • possibly BLB fault, but you should notice a loose chainring bolt, they rattle around and make lots of noise. they do come undone.

  • agreed
but after 3.5 rides ? (short)
i honestly heard no sound before ... off thier now, quickly before i need to get back to it

  • chris crash can we burn it down?
we didnt get to burn down the last place on brick lane and i got all that petrol i bet you dont even know what petrol costs these days cyclist c*nts

You are doing this the wrong way..
You steal a white van, back it up into the shop through a window (don't know BLB, since I'm from Denmark and actually never was in London, so i don't know if this is possible).
Then you get all from the shop that you want, get the van out of the way, and then you burn the shop.

When you get home you paypal me 50 dorras and send me an arrospok for the advice ;)

edit: And, If you are going to burn something down, you don't go paying for the petrol.. We had a guy doing that in Denmark, it didn't work out that well for him.

  • Same thing happened to me last night! Not happy, only had it fitted a couple of weeks ago... back with bike shop now and there is an eerie silence from them so far.... will see what they say but this thread has helped me to know what the possible reason was and not as they said "I must have strong legs!!"

  • ^ Looks like its quite a large chainring on a small bcd, you might be better opting for some larger bcd cranks which would be stiffer and less prone to bending, but thats still pretty poor as your not even skidding it, whats the chainline like?
