  • First of all do Campagnolo make at 17t sprocket

If they do anyone know where I can get one from mail order

    If I can't find a campag sprocket

    Is there an alternative?

It needs to be thin an EAI is too broad and will not do

    Hoping someone can help

80 inches is proving a little tiresome uphill

  • as hippy would say HTFU!! :p

  • I don't think they do. Or they're super hard to come by.

By thin do you mean 3/32 or the shoulder width?

  • if your having trouble, get a smaller front ring?

  • a condor 17t?

  • Have you tried campyoldy.co.uk and universalcyclecentre.co.uk for campagnolo things? Call them, their stock lists are slightly bewildering for the non-expert!

You can get 3/32" cogs made by all sorts of manufacturers, if that's what you mean by thin. Lots of people like Surly ones, they look pretty with their holes.

  • EAI cogs have a slightly wider shoulder, which is what he means i think. never seen campag sprocket though, lockring yes.

  • there are some campy sprockets on the bay, but only 14t...:(

  • Yeah the campy cogs have a narrow shoulder width

I have already tried campy oldie

I am going to ask Will at hubjub next

You say condor does cogs is that there own brand?

  • they do 2 types, one steel which is fairly narrow, and a thick one like the EAI.

  • Good show 32trum if I can't find the real mcoy I can give condor a bell

  • Roberto Don't think Campag ever made a 17t track sprocket, plus the Campag sprockets are alloy made - not the greatest thing for street use!

Roberto, is there an equivalent I can use on a 1970's RECORD hub, what is wrong with alloy? your superiour knowledge maybe of help to me here

  • Steel lasts longer than alloy...
I would say EAI, but didn't know about the difference of the thickness but might be worth to try. Phil also makes nice sprockets but they are pricy...

  • nope they dont do 17T.I think 16T is the smallest.Campagnolo track specific much like their chainrings,if only i could find a 44T but nope TA will have to do.
i dont get the thickness part.do you have chainline issues?

  • it is simply that if the cog shoulder is too thick the lock ring won't go on

    do dura-ace make 1/8th cogs...?

anyone got a phil they want to measure for me..

  • my 1/8 18T phil was as big as my 1/8 18T EAI, pretty chunky!!

  • thanks dogsballs that rules out the phil's

what about Miche anyone got a miche sprocket...? is it CHUNKY

  • I think the carrier system might be a little chunky.
    Maybe a 3/32 shudder.

  • 3/32 would work I guess

  • Ah, with you asking about Campy and EAI, I thought you were after pricey peices.
Go to Condor and get their cheap 1/8th(tranzmissions?) steel cog. I know it's narrower than Miche and will definitely come in 17t (as long as they're in stock). I've never had a problem with them being too wide, too narrow on newer Miche hubs but never too wide on any hub I've tried.
They come in either silver or black if I remember correctly.

A few things to remember about cheap cogs:
Clean the threads on your hub and apply grease. Rub the threads on the cheap cog with a wire brush, inspect threads and apply grease. Screw the cheap cog on gently backing off if it gets rough and go back on slowly, repeat if necessary until snug. REALLY crank it down with a not-so-cheap chain whip or get really physically intimate with the rota-fix method. Apply lockring as normal.

  • I agree with what tramps says, BUT if this is for your mercian with it's polished up old super record hubs then I'd think twice about cheap cogs cos 9as his advice makes clear) they're a lot less kind to the bubs. But then I never had a problem with normal cogs on Super Rocord hubs, so maybe it's on a different bike. Otherwise just ride without a lockring and make sure you have a front brake...

  • Yeah its the mercian and definately an EAI doesn't fit
You know what Campy stuff is like...!
    & now I know
I am not sure I like the sound of them 'cheap' cogs
the last thing I need is a stripped thread
a 17t would have been a nice simple solution
So I might just get used to hill climbing on a big gear
Unless I can find a nice 46 or 47 ring

  • Sprocket specs by Sheldon

Phl 1/8 slimmer than EAI and Dura Ace

  • interesting, from eye they stand out. maybe this is to compensate for phils hubs. ho hum, i've been shamed :(

  • What measurement am I supposed to be looking at ?

    Chainline from Shoulder

    Width

    or measured thickness..?
